In the face of evil, Saint Paul reminds us to “overcome evil with good” (Rom 12:21). The war in Ukraine has been raging for over two years. As we approach the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (Feb 24), the Knights of Columbus invites you to join in prayer for the people of Ukraine including our brother Knights and their families– by undertaking a novena for peace from February 15th – 23rd ending on the eve of the anniversary.

Each day of the novena focuses our spiritual attention on those in need of our prayerful solidarity: widows, orphans, the deceased, the wounded, veterans, refugees, prisoners, and young people. We encourage you to organize a joint prayer in your councils and parishes and share this novena, written by a Ukrainian young adult, with others.

In anticipation of the second anniversary of the war in Ukraine, the Knights of Columbus encourages all to join us in praying a novena of solidarity with our...

Blessed Michael McGivney was a friend of the Dominicans, who began to serve St. Mary’s in 1886, two years after Fr. McGivney received a new assignment. Blessed McGivney was devoted to the Holy Rosary and, when his body was interred in St. Mary’s Church in 1982, he was found wearing the white sca...

It's hard to believe it was one month ago that we were all celebrating Fr. McGivney's beatification weekend. I am sure you join me in being so thankful for the graces of that weekend and the graces that continue to come to us through the intercession of Blessed Michael McGivney.

As wonderful as the memories of that event are, the reality is also that the parish spent tens of thousands of dollars in preparing and purchasing materials for the weekend. This expenditure was (obviously) unforeseen and unplanned-for when the parish budget was put together last January. If you were able to participate in the weekend, either in-person or from a distance via our streaming coverage, and are able to make a donation to us on this Giving Tuesday to help offset the expenses we endured, we would be very thankful. This is especially true of those who are not parishioners and thus not supporting us on a weekly basis.

One-time (or recurring)donations can be made online at https://stmarysnewhaven.weshareonline.org (there is no set option for McGivney Festival, but you can simply choose "Sunday offertory" or if you would prefer, "Capital Campaign" which will help with our ongoing upkeep and renovation expenses). If you would prefer to donate by check, please make out the check to "St. Mary Parish" and mail it to the parish office at 5 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven CT 06511. If you wish to put "McGivney Festival" in the "note" line of the check to let us know it is a donation made in thanksgiving for the festival, that would be great!

Thank you all. May God bless you and your loved ones, this day and always.

~ Fr. John Paul Walker, OP
Pastor
