About Our Church Building: New Hartford Presbyterian Church is the oldest public building still in use in Oneida county. It was built in 1792 on land which can be traced back to George Washington and George Clinton, who got the land as a reward for service to their country. Jonat

New Hartford Presbyterian Church marks its 235th anniversary.

New Hartford Presbyterian Church, located at 45 Genesee Street, held its first worship service on August 27th, 1791 -- 235 years ago -- in a barn owned by early settler Jedediah Sanger. George Washington was president of the new United States of America at the time. In 1792, construction began on the congregation’s present building on land donated by Sanger.

The church began as the First Religious Society of Whitestown -- New Hartford was part of Whitestown at the time. Initially a Congregationalist church, it affiliated with the Presbyterian denomination in 1801. It is the oldest church in Oneida County, with its steeple depicted on the Town of New Hartford logo.

All are welcome at worship services each Sunday!

Services will begin at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday, August 30th, led by our pastor, Rev. Hannah Ratliff. A special anniversary celebration will follow.

In September, services will return to their normal starting time of 10:30 a.m. Also in September, Sunday School programs for both children and adults will resume at 9:30 a.m. More information can be found on the church’s website, www.newhartfordpresbyterian.org.
