Established in 1783, Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester is home to the only active Shaker Community in the world today. Situated on 1,800 acres of farm and forest land with seventeen historic structures from the 1780s through the 1950s, the Village conti

nues to be a place where Shakers live, work, and worship. “Put your hands to work, and give your hearts to God” continues to be the Shakers’ guiding principle, as expressed by their leader Mother Ann Lee more than 230 years ago. Best-known today for the popular styles of 19th century furniture and crafts, the Shakers have a rich legacy that includes many achievements in social reform, agriculture, technology, and innovation. The flat broom, the circular saw blade, the spring clothespin, chair tilter buttons, and the paper seed envelope are all among a long list of Shaker inventions. The Sabbathday Lake Shakers welcome visitors to experience parts of their history and on-going heritage through their museum, research library, traditional craft workshops, concerts, educational programs, membership support group, and even Sunday worship services.

Our volunteers and staff are getting the barn cleaned out for the next barn sale!! We are now open for self-drop off of donations! Details below and link in the comment section/bio.

Last year’s Barn Sale was SUCH a great success and we heard you asking for more so we are bringing it back— with your help!

We’re planning another fun and exciting fundraiser, and we hope you’ll help! We hope it will help you clear some household clutter while giving to a great cause.

On Saturday, June 20th & Sunday June 21st we will host an old-fashioned barn sale where all proceeds raised will be used to make repairs to the Shakers’ Carriage Shed, the oldest building on the property!
