Three Definitive Marks of a Christian - On Sunday, June 6, Pastor Stephon shared from 1 John 5:1-5 and the Three Definitive Marks of a Christian, which every believer must express:

1. We are Believers - True followers are whole-hearted believers of Jesus' message. True Followers believe Jesus IS who he said he is. And because we deeply believe in Christ's message and His Kingdom, we must tell others of the Truth of Jesus Christ!

2. We are Lovers - We love God the Father - and our love motivates our obedience. We love one another, and because we love one another we will fulfil the laws of Love. Love means keeping His commandments and living in a way that pleases God.

3. We are Overcomers - Because we believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Savior of the World, we have access to overcoming power of the Holy Spirit that will keep us free from sin and focused on building the Kingdom of God.

It really IS that simple. Believe - Love - Overcome.

You have been placed here on this earth for a Reason... to Believe Jesus is the Son of God and the one who gives us new life.
To share His Love with those who need it mostl And to Overcome sin and adversity through the power of the Holy Spirit.

It will change your life!

DON'T BURY THE TRUTH - Pastor Stephon's message from the Gospel of John 12:42-43 and 2 Kings 7:3-9 tells us of two passages that show us about the Power of speaking the right thing when it is needed most. Because we never know who needs our words of encouragement or a message of Hope. We have the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and there are people everywhere who need to hear this Good News! They need to know they have HOPE!

The 2 Kings passage is the story of four men with the very contagious disease of leprosy who were living outside the gates of the walled city of Samaria, which was under siege and closed off by an enemy army. The city experienced famine, with people facing starvation. However, outside the city walls sat the four lepers, who were also experiencing starvation. They decided that if they didn't make a change in their lives they would surely die, and so they decided to surrender to the enemy army where they would at least have a chance to live. But God was about to use them to bring deliverance to the people back in the city! As they made their way toward the enemy camp, the enemies heard the sound of a mighty army - galloping horses and speeding chariots and the clatter of swords, all marching toward them! God made them think they were being attacked by a larger army! Thinking they were outnumbered, the enemy army retreated, leaving everything behind - a treasure trove of food, horses, wine, gold and silver and clothing - all this left to be gathered by four scrawny and sickly lepers! As the lepers gathered up these great treasures, they knew they could NOT keep all this bounty for themselves, and decided to do the RIGHT THING - and return to the city, tell the gatekeepers what happened, and bring HOPE to the starving people in the city! Lives were saved that day! Hope was given to hurting people!

In contrast, the story from John 13 tells how some of the "chief rulers" of the city of Jerusalem began to believe in Jesus as they listened to Jesus teach the Kingdom of God! They discovered Hope! However, these rulers wouldn't ADMIT that they believed in Jesus, for fear that they would lose their elite positions in the religious system. John, the author of this gospel, writes, "For they loved human praise more than the praise of God." They wouldn't TELL anyone about the Good News they heard, and they refused to share the Hope of the Gospel message with people who desperately needed HOPE! All because they were afraid of what it would cost them.

Pastor Stephon showed us these two totally different responses to God's Good News:
The Lepers knew they had to share what they found, knowing they had nothing to lose.
The Religious leaders refused to share what they found because they were afraid of losing their social status, power, and prestige among their religious peers.

Pastor Stephon challenged us to never be fearful of sharing the message of the Gospel with those we know, and he left us with this thought:
That was THEIR excuse.
What is OURS?

In the end, NOT sharing the Gospel with others will cost us much more than we realize.

So who will YOU share YOUR Good News of Jesus Christ with this week?

Sunday, April 26 - Pastor Stephon helped us to understand that we are not defined by our past... our sins and our mistakes do NOT define who we are today, and they especially do NOT define who we are called to be through Jesus Christ!

There were four people in the Bible with past lives they weren't proud of, but whom God gave new lives and a second chance:

1. Rahab (Joshua 2) was a pr******te living in Jericho, living a life without hope. Rahab had heard rumors and stories about how mighty and powerful was the God of the Israelites, and her heart was drawn to God. Through an amazing set of circumstances (ya really should read Joshua 2 - the whole amazing chapter!) God delivers her from the destruction of the city and Rahab goes on to become the great-grandmother of King David! Her personal life was changed forever!

2. The Sons of Korah were musicians, singers, and worshipers who overcame a family legacy of rebels and trouble-makers. Their ancestor, Korah, lead a treasonous revolt against Moses and the God of Israel (Numbers 16). Korah faced the consequences of his betrayal and disloyalty to God's leader, Moses, when the earth opened up and Korah and his rebellious followers were destroyed. But even with this family tragedy in their past, Korah's sons REFUSED to follow in their father's footsteps, and instead, they CHOSE to follow and serve God. These worshipers overcame their family legacy of rebellion and treason and built a NEW Legacy of Praise and Honor! They refused to be defined by their family's past!

3. Mary Magdalene had been possessed by 7 demons (Luke 8:2) that tormented her with behavioral problems, oppression/depressions, anger, and a multitude of other manifestations of the devil. But one day Jesus delivered her and from that day forward she faithfully followed him and supported His ministry, as well as becoming one of the most devoted followers of Jesus Christ! She was at the cross grieving his death, when many of his disciples were hiding. She witnessed his resurrection and was the first person EVER to proclaim the gospel message, "HE IS RISEN!" Mary refused to be defined by the person she was before Jesus set her free, and she became an amazing mentor to many other women who also followed Jesus!

4. Onesimus was the slave of a New Testament Christian named Philemon (the same Philemon to whom Apostle Paul wrote a letter called - Philemon!) Onesimus was a runway slave who was caught and jailed along with the greatest New Testament preacher, Apostle Paul, who introduced him to Jesus Christ, and gave him a second chance to do the right thing. Paul writes to Philemon that he is returning Onesimus to him "as a brother" in the Lord, and asks that Philemon accept Onesimus with open arms. Onesimus is returned to Philemon, no longer a rebellious slave, but a "brother", a member of the family of God! This man Onesimus was no longer a useless and rebellious slave has now become "like a son" to the great Apostle Paul! He returns to Philemon as a family member, forgiven and given a second chance after proving himself to be a new person, forgiven and mentored by Paul. Onesimus was no longer defined by his past as a slave.

Romans 8:1 says "There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus!" If our sins have been forgiven, we have been set free to become the people God has called us to be. He has a plan for your life. Because you are NOT defined by your past! Your future with Jesus Christ will be truly amazing!

Living Word Fellowship was challenged today with an interesting question from Pastor Stephon... "Why Are We Miserable?" (1 Corinthians 15:19-22, 58) This might seem like an odd title for an EASTER sermon, but when we examine the power of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the vital importance of the Resurrection of Jesus, we discover that we who truly believe that Jesus is Alive should never find ourselves miserable, like so many people around us! Why?

Because the Resurrection is the foundation of our Christian faith, and the scriptures say that through Christ we have access to the power of the Resurrection now... in this life!

Because life was never the same after Jesus triumphed over death! And for believers, we join in that victory because we are the Body of Christ! Sin is now conquered, fear is now defeated, and darkness has been overcome! We now find Hope and Power for this life because the resurrected Lord has empowered His people - His church - to live above the influence of this present world We should NEVER be Miserable!

And because of that truth, we find new direction in verse 58, "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." Where do we get that kind of resolve? From the Resurrected Power of Jesus Christ!

Jesus is Alive, and He lives in His Body - the Church! And He is building His Church against which the gates of Hell can NEVER prevail!

And who can be miserable when we have the promise of that kind of love and power working for us? He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

March 22nd was a special day at Living Word Christian Fellowship, with music by Jeremy Paugh. Jeremy's ministry in song challenged us to rekindle our passion to see souls saved for Jesus Christ our Lord, and to hold each other -and the world - in prayer.

Pastor Stephon then shared a message titled, "An Outline for Closing This Age" from Daniel 2:20-22 and Acts 3:19-21. with the theme "The Restoration of All Things." Daniel said God controls the course of world events: he removed kings and sets up other kings, as well as revealing deep mysteries to His people. And in the world believers live in, we certainly need, like the Jewish tribe of Issachar in 1 Chronicles 12:32, who "had understanding of the times and knew what Israel ought to do." As hard as it might be, we must trust God's choosing of our leaders. But God's Kingdom is not stopped by earthly leaders, because God has a Plan for His Kingdom people!

Pastor Stephon gave us 4 points to focus on when preparing for the End-times found in the Acts chapter 3 passage:
1. REPENTANCE (v 19) Christians sometimes think they have no further need for repentance, but we must remember that repentance is essential for our spiritual maturity, and it brings the next point...
2. REFRESHING (v 20) The presence of God comes to revive us with a season of relief from the distress of this age and the pressures of our world
3. RESTORATION (v 21) We are living in a time when God is restoring His Church! He shared the difference between restoration and remodeling- remodeling changes something from its original design. But Restoration takes it back to its original purpose and design, with Christ Jesus being the pattern for His Church!
4. RETURNING (v 20) After those times of Repentance, we know that our Lord Jesus will indeed return. Jesus is coming back, and He told us to look for him the same way he left!

We have some work to do to prepare for our Lord's return! May we all urgently begin to prepare for His coming so we can be ready for the incredible days ahead!

On Sunday, March 8, Pastor Stephon shared from Zechariah 10:1-5, where God declares He will restore those who are seeking Him, who ASK for the rain that He gives. When God invites us to ASK for something, we certainly should respond, shouldn’t we? Especially in these trying and uncertain days. God says He will visit his flock, the house of Judah (Judah, by the way, were the Praisers who lead God’s people into battle!), and will raise up a people, described as His Royal Horse in the battle.
But we must ASK, and seek, and pursue that rain, and for the honor to used in His Kingdom. Jesus said it best: “Ask and it shall be given unto you!” Are you seeking the Kingdom of God with all that is in you?

On Sunday, March 1, 2026, Pastor Stephon preached a message titled Three Aspects of the Cross, from Romans 5:6-11.

1. The Physical Aspect - The cross is a grim and foreboding image, and for many people, it makes them uncomfortable, as it is a reminder of the suffering of our Lord Jesus Christ. The crucifixion was a horrible and cruel Roman punishment. But throughout his life, Jesus would have witnessed many crucifixions of criminals, where the person was stripped of clothing, beat and scourged mercilessly. Jesus was whipped and beaten until his back was raw, and he never spoke a word of resistance during that time. He was hung/nailed to a cross, naked and shamed as he bore our sins. At 3 PM his spirit left him as he died. The earth quaked and shook, and even a Roman soldier who witnessed it all declared, "Surely this man was the Son of God!" Jesus suffered physical pain so that we could be healed. He died so that we could be set free from sin!

2. And then there was the Religiosity aspect of the cross - For many the cross is simply a religious symbol and nothing more. They know the words to that old hymn, "The Old Rugged Cross", without even knowing Jesus. They embrace the symbol without embracing the Savior! But here's the important point: Christ's sacrifice must be experienced! Unless we experienced repentance, and unless we experience forgiveness, we will never fully know what it is to be set FREE from our old life of sin! It's not about religion - it's about RELATIONSHIP with the Savior!

3. And finally, there is the Redemptive aspect of the cross - and so we ask the question, "Why the cross?" It took the blood of the perfect Son of God to bring full redemption for our sins! God wanted to show how much he loved you and me, and Jesus, as the Son of God, went willingly, laid down his life and paid the penalty for our sins. It was Love that put him on the cross, and it was Love that KEPT him there, until he cried out, "It is finished!" And then he died... For all of our sins and all our rebellious behaviors. And he did so out of love, for you, for me, for us all.

You have never been loved by anyone more than that!

It was a great blessing to have Bob Shrout with us on Sunday, February 22, at Living Word Fellowship. Bob's singing ministry blessed us as he sang praises of God's great love, and how our lives should be a dwelling place for God, where others can see God in us, and that we are NEVER too old to be an instrument of God's love and peace for those who don't yet know God. He closed with the faithful old hymn, "Love Lifted Me," giving us an opportunity to sing along with him and glorify God with our voices!

Then Pastor Stephon shared his sermon, "Why God is Waiting," with Joel 2:12-13 and Romans 2:4, and focusing on the Patience of God. God is merciful, compassionate, slow to anger and waiting for us to turn to Him with all of our hearts. Pastor Stephon gave two Important Aspects of God's nature:

1) God is always calling us to return to Him, because He is compassionate. Even when God is not happy with our choices, HIS overwhelming choice is to extend compassion to us, not wanting to punish us for our rebellion, and showing us mercy.

2) God wants reconciliation, restoration, and healing with us. That is His nature. His patience is an aspect of His goodness.
However, Pastor Stephon showed us that God's patience is manifested in multiple ways. The first is His Patience (Greek word agathos) that is associated with Justice . The next is His undeserved kindness (Greek word krestos) that is not immediately demanding, but extends mercy while he waits for our response. The final one, is God's Forbearance (Greek word anoke), that God is holding something back, and he has issued a truce in order to rescue us, giving us time to return to Him and serve Him with all our hearts. But think of this... there is a limit to this Anoke, because of God's strong justice.

The intention of God's patience is to bring us to repentance, because that truce will end.

Many people in this nation have hardened their hearts against God, preferring to live their lives according to their own plans, but God is patiently waiting for us to respond to His invitation to give Him every part of our lives, withholding nothing from Him.

Have you invited him to be the King of YOUR heart, giving Him every area of your life? Or will you continue to make God wait? We urge you to surrender your life... your whole life... and become a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. You won't regret it!
