Sarah Cathleen Wallace, 55, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2026, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family in her final moments.
Sarah was born on September 28, 1970, in Richmond, Indiana. She attended National Trail schools for most of her education and later graduated from Liberty Christian Academy. One of the most meaningful moments of her life was sharing her high school graduation with her mother, whose lifelong dream was to complete her education as well. Sarah considered it a true honor to share that milestone.
Sarah’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. It was her passion and her greatest desire that everyone she knew—or even briefly met—would hear how wonderful He is and come to know and trust in Him for salvation. She held the words of Matthew 22:37–40 close to her heart, living out a deep love for God and for
others that was evident to all who knew her. She was known for her selfless heart and her willingness to put others before herself, even when it meant she might be hurt. Sarah loved deeply, forgave quickly, and showed grace to those who wronged her—especially
when they were willing to make things right.
She opened her home to those in need, helping many get back on
their feet, and became known as “Momma” to more than just her own children. At the same time, she had a feisty side, with that unmistakable “Wallace” temper and a sharp tongue that could come out when someone crossed her or her children. It was all part of her fire—strong, protective, and real—but never without forgiveness close behind.
Sarah married Chris Maish in 1990 and was a devoted mother to their two children, Kyle Maish and Janet Maish, both of Richmond, Indiana. She is also survived by her companion, Chris Kerns of Richmond—whom she affectionately called her “Otis.”
She was a proud grandmother. Her son Kyle is the father of four children: Keaton, Carson, Cooper, and King Maish, all of New Paris, Ohio. He also shares his life with his girlfriend, Miranda, and her daughter, Liberty, both of Richmond. Sarah’s daughter Janet is the mother of Jeremiah Dupree, whom Sarah helped raise.
Sarah found joy in the simple but meaningful moments of life—drinking coffee, talking, and spending time with the people she loved most. She cherished singing with her mother and sister at church and around the campfire or table with her family. In her later years, she embraced fun in her own way, often turning up her karaoke machine and filling the neighborhood with music and laughter—whether they were ready for it or not.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Janet Wallace; her brother, John Wallace; her paternal grandparents, Phil and Marie Wallace; and her maternal grandparents, W. Lee and Laura Hampton.
Sarah was the youngest of seven children. She is survived by her siblings: Wayne Wallace (Donna), Keith Wallace, Tom Wallace (Becky), David Wallace (Barbra), and her sister Becky Lowery (Jim), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Sarah was a bright light in a dark world, taken far too soon. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, strength, and forgiveness that will continue to impact all who were blessed to know her.
