Celebrating the Lives. Cherishing the Memories. Carrying the Legacy Forward.

Northside Church of God invites you to join us for a special Memorial Service as we remember and honor the faithful people who helped build, shape, and love this church throughout the years.

Some stood behind the pulpit. Some taught Sunday School, played the piano, sang the hymns, served meals, prayed at the altar, welcomed people through the doors, and contributed by showing up faithfully Sunday after Sunday. Each one became part of the story of Northside, and although many have gone on to their heavenly home, the love, faith, traditions, and memories they left behind are still very much a part of who we are today.

This will be a time to remember familiar faces, share treasured memories, honor those who came before us, and thank God for the people He placed along the way.

As we remember the past, we also celebrate the beautiful truth that the church carries on. The faces may change through the years, but the faith handed down to us continues from one generation to the next.

We hope you’ll join us for this special time of remembrance, gratitude, and fellowship.

This was a favorite passage of our former pastor, Brother Phil Brown. He quoted it many times over the years.

Sometimes a verse of Scripture becomes so closely associated with someone we love that we can hardly read it without hearing their voice.

We're thankful for the many faithful saints we have had as part of our church family over the years, for favorite Scriptures, and for our memories.

Wednesday night service cancelled - Due to the continued heavy rain and flooding throughout our area, service is canceled for tonight, Wednesday, August 12 (no phone service tonight).

Henry County is currently under a Level 3 Red Travel Warning, and residents have been asked not to travel unless it is an emergency. With rain continuing throughout the day, we want everyone to stay home and stay safe.

If you must go out today, please use caution, especially around flooded roadways. Let's keep our community and those affected by the flooding in our prayers.

We look forward to worshiping together again Sunday. ❤️

Good morning! Every sunrise is a reminder that God's mercies are new each morning.

Whatever today holds, you don't have to face it alone. God is faithful, His Word is true, and His people are here to encourage one another.

Moments in Scripture: The Parable of the Talents

As Jesus was teaching about His return, He told a parable about a wealthy man preparing to leave on a journey. Before departing, he called his servants and entrusted them with his possessions.

One servant received five talents, another received two, and another received one (Matthew 25:15).

In Jesus' day, a talent wasn't a natural ability or skill as we often use the word today. It was an enormous sum of money. The master was entrusting each servant with something valuable that belonged to him, expecting them to care for it faithfully until he returned.

Two of the servants immediately went to work. They invested what had been entrusted to them and gained more.

The third servant was afraid. Instead of using what he had been given, he buried it in the ground.
When the master returned, he called each servant to give an account.

The servant with five talents and the servant with two talents received exactly the same commendation: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant..." (Matthew 25:21, 23)

The master's praise wasn't based on how much each servant had received. It was based on their faithfulness with what had been entrusted to them.

That same principle is found throughout Scripture.
God has entrusted each of us with different resources, opportunities, abilities, responsibilities, and places to serve. We aren't called to compare what we've been given with someone else. We are simply called to be faithful with what God has placed in our hands.

🦁 Daniel and the Lion's Den

Daniel was an exile from Judah serving in the kingdom of Babylon, and later under the rule of King Darius of Persia. His faithfulness made him respected by the king, but it also made him the target of many jealous officials.

Unable to find fault with Daniel's character, they devised another plan. They persuaded King Darius to sign a decree that for thirty days no one could pray to any god or man except the king himself (Daniel 6:6-9).

Daniel knew the decree had been signed. He knew the price to pay for disobeying. Yet he continued to do what he had always done. Three times a day, he opened his window and knelt before God in prayer (Daniel 6:10).

For that, he was thrown into a den of lions.

King Darius was deeply distressed. Under Persian law, once a royal decree had been signed, it could not be revoked (Daniel 6:8, 12, 15). Some historians believe this sentence functioned as what is known as a trial by ordeal, an ancient practice in which a person's survival was understood to require divine intervention. They believed that if the prisoner survived the punishment, that they were innocent because God must be with them.

They threw Daniel in the den with the hungry lions and waited.

When the king hurried to the den at the break of dawn, fearing the worst, he called out nervously, asking if God had spared him.

Daniel answered, "My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me..." (Daniel 6:22)

Daniel explained that he had been found innocent before God and had done no wrong against the king. God had not removed him from the trial. He had met him in it and brought him through.

Daniel was brought up out of the Lions den without a scratch. The king then decreed that his people will worship God forever.

Whatever hardships we face, we serve the same faithful God. His presence with Daniel reminds us that He has not promised a life without trials, but He has promised never to leave His people.
