✝️ STOP SAYING, "I AM GOING TO ATTEND MASS"

__________________
How often have we said it?

"I am going to attend Mass."

It sounds harmless.

And in ordinary conversation, everyone understands what we mean.

But strictly speaking, it does not capture the full reality of what happens at the altar.

Catholics do not merely attend Mass.

Catholics offer Mass.

And that difference matters.

✝️ MASS IS A SACRIFICE

From the beginning, worship has always involved sacrifice.

In the Old Testament:

Abel offered the firstlings of his flock.

Noah offered burnt offerings.

Abraham prepared to offer Isaac.

Israel offered lambs in the Temple.

Worship was never mere observation.

It was always offering.

And the Mass is the fulfillment of every Old Testament sacrifice.

At Mass, the one Sacrifice of Christ on Calvary is made sacramentally present.

✝️ THE PRIEST OFFERS, AND SO DO WE

The priest acts in persona Christi, in the person of Christ.

He stands at the altar as the visible minister.

But he does not offer alone.

The whole Church joins in the offering.

That is why the priest says:

"Pray, brethren, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God..."

Notice carefully:

Not my sacrifice alone.

But my sacrifice and yours.

The Mass belongs to the entire Church.

✝️ WE ARE NOT SPECTATORS

At Mass, you are not an audience.

You are not watching a performance.

You are not attending a religious show.

You are participating in the greatest act of worship on earth.

You unite:

your prayers,

your sufferings,

your joys,

your sacrifices,

your entire life

with Christ's perfect offering to the Father.

That is why the Mass has infinite value.

✝️ THE LANGUAGE OF THE CHURCH

Traditionally, Catholics often spoke of "hearing Mass."

Today, many say "attending Mass."

Neither expression is wrong.

But neither fully expresses the richness of Catholic worship.

The deeper truth is this:

We go to Mass to offer the Holy Sacrifice.

That language reminds us of our active role.

✝️ WHAT DO YOU PLACE ON THE ALTAR?

Every Mass is an opportunity.

Bring something.

your family

your work

your struggles

your thanksgiving

your intentions

your tears

Place them spiritually upon the altar.

Christ will unite them to His own offering.

Nothing given to God at Mass is ever lost.

✝️ FINAL WORD

Do not go to Mass merely to "be there."

Go to worship.

Go to sacrifice.

Go to offer.

Because Calvary is made present.

And you are invited to unite yourself completely to Christ.

✝️ REMEMBER THIS ALWAYS

You are not just attending Mass.

You are offering the Holy Sacrifice with Christ, through the priest, to the Father.

That is why Catholics do far more than simply show up.

We offer.

✝️

In these days of division, confusion, and attacks it is important for me to stay grounded in my faith. Faith in Christ has never disappointed. It has always brought me through the tough times.
My part is to BE ALERT, STAND FIRM, BE COURAGEOUS, and BE STRONG.
And, DO EVERYTHING WITH LOVE. ❤️
—————————————
1. BE ALERT to evil and deception against your faith.
1 Peter 5:8 — “Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.”
‭‭
2. STAND FIRM in your faith in Christ.
Colossians 1:23 — “if indeed you remain grounded and steadfast in the faith and are not shifted away from the hope of the gospel that you heard….”
‭‭
3. BE COURAGEOUS in fighting the good fight of your faith.
1 Timothy 6:12 — “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of eternal life to which you were called and about which you have made a good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
‭‭
4. BE STRONG through your faith in the Lord’s power.
Ephesians 6:10 — “A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.”
‭‭
5. AND DO EVERYTHING WITH LOVE as you live out your faith in Christ.
John 13:34-35 — “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”
