I fully recognize that there evil things done by witches and warlocks and that Halloween is a high holy day for pagans and satan worshippers and new age people of all kinds. (There are several of these days for them throughout the year.) Yes, there is evil that happens on October 31st.
All Saints Day was first recognized by the early church close after Pentecost in early summer. It was a day to honor those who had gone before us, mighty men and women of God. The night before was All Hallow's Eve, a sacred time of preparation for many. Maybe it would be good for us to remember those that have gone before us!
All Saints Day was moved to November 1st by one of the popes in the early 8th century. He was trying to counteract the pagan celebration of the Harvest moon. Hallow's Eve fell to the 31st. With a focus on those that have died, and the pagan celebrations, it eventually evolved into what we now call Halloween.
As a kid, my dad took us from house to house as we dressed up and got loads of candy. I actually have great memories of that, dressed up like a Cheerios box or with cotton glued to my face dressed as an old man. (I'm almost there!) I still remember the houses that had the good candy!
I was never aware of demons and witchcraft and never felt like we were celebrating anything evil. We just had a day to dress up and have a great time.
After I surrendered my life to Christ and began to be aware of spiritual darkness and this battle that we are in with satan, we had a decision to make a parents. We saw things in a different light.
I've seen many videos and heard many teachings on how wicked and awful Halloween is. And many of you came out of the occult world and have first hand experience.
After digesting it all, we still landed in the place that October 31st is a day the Lord has made, and we will rejoice and be glad in it. For our family, it's very important to be ambassadors for Jesus to our friends and neighbors. Doing the work of an evangelist on a day like this has been a great experience.
Why did I post this? Because much of the messaging amongst Christians, especially on social media, actually condemns those who try to reach out to unbelievers on this day as if they are doing something wrong, even agreeing with demons!
As I said in the previous post, we shared Jesus at every house we went to, and we shared Jesus with all who came to our house. And we still do. We have opted to exalt Christ in the midst of the darkness.
I was always taught, even from childhood, that even small lights make the most impact in the darkest night. I still believe it.
Paul taught about food sacrificed to idols. Some felt comfortable eating it and some did not. I think maybe this subject is a lot like that.
I'm not advocating that parents participate in Halloween. Demons are real and all the activities that engage men with them are real. Be aware.
I'm not even appealing to all that you engage in outreach. That might not be for everybody.
So what should we do? Here's three thoughts that I humbly put forward...
1. You cannot violate your own conscience before the Lord. Pay attention to the peace of God in your heart! Don't do things or not do them based upon peer pressure. Follow the Spirit in you! If you are violating your conscience participating, then don't do it! You are free before the Lord! (For me, I would feel very much like I was disobedient to the Lord not sharing Christ.)
2. Don't be motivated by fear. The enemy was bigger than you before you met Jesus. But you now have the living Son of God living in your heart! You are empowered by the Holy Spirit! Don't be afraid!
3. Quit judging other believers for their choices! If someone chooses to engage in evangelism, pray that they world be effective and bless them! If someone else feels that they should not participate as unto the Lord, honor that without judging! Give others room to make their own decision as they follow Christ!
On a more important note, let's believe for revival together and let's walk in a spirit of unity! The Kingdom is moving forward! Love you all!
Have a blessed day!
