If you call yourself a Christian, let me ask you something from the heart. Are you truly walking with God… or have you simply become religious? Many good men today wear the name “Christian,” yet their daily walk with Jesus remains shallow. They trust that He died to keep them out of hell, but ...

Friend, have you noticed how subtly our affections can shift from God-centered to self-centered? Join us in exploring Day 2 of our series, where we gently uncover this quiet drift and rediscover the joy of sovereign grace. Dive in here:

Friend, building on yesterday's gentle audit of our thoughts, let's lean in a bit further today. If you've taken that moment to reflect on how much time 'me' occupies in your mind, you might have felt a tug—a recognition that self-focus is both natural and, at times, overwhelming. Now, consider th...

Beloved friend, how much time do we really spend thinking about “me”? Day 1 of our gentle audit series invites us to a humble, grace-filled look at our hearts and where our thoughts truly belong. Scripture’s 6/7 balance offers a tender reminder that our lives are not our own. Read and reflect here:

Beloved friend, let's start this journey together with a simple pause. In the hustle of our days—rushing from one task to the next, scrolling through feeds that pull us in a hundred directions—it's easy to lose track of where our minds wander. Today, I invite you to an honest audit, not as a har...

Hey friends,
Just published the first piece in a new slow series called “The Whisper and the Slow Feast.”
This one is titled “A Whisper in the Introduction — What Happened When I Finally Sat Down with Calvin.”
It’s the honest story of sitting down to read Calvin’s Institutes for the first time… and instead getting hit with a quiet whisper from years ago that changed everything: “I’ve given you 10 months, and you haven’t thanked Me once.” That one sentence started a four-year unraveling and the hunger for real depth in a quick-cut world.
No formula. No hype. Just one regular guy in the trenches learning to read old books again.
You can read the full post here (no pressure, just honest words):

More in the series coming soon.
Blessings,
ElCapitanNG

I didn’t plan to stop reading tonight. The new print copy of Calvin’s Institutes (the McNeill/Battles two-volume set I waited two years for) was finally in my hands. The server in the other room was humming along, slowly ingesting my whole theology library through OpenClaw. I told myself I’d j...

🌿 How “No” Vanished from Everyday Talk — And Why Some of Us Only Noticed After Stepping Out of the Feed
It happened so quietly we almost missed it.
In the constant scroll, “No” disappeared.
No more gentle boundaries.
No more polite refusals.
Just endless “yes” — to every ping, every hot take, every demand the algorithm throws at us.
But something shifts the moment you finally step away from the feed.
Suddenly you hear it again… that small, still voice that used to say “No” — and you realize how long it’s been silent in your own life.
That’s The Silent Shift.

If you’ve been feeling that quiet pull to reclaim your “No”… this one’s for you.

How “No” Vanished from Everyday Talk — And Why Some of Us Only Noticed After Stepping Out of the Feed For nearly four years I was mostly pulled out of the constant cultural current. When I slowly stepped back in, one change hit me harder than anything else: the simple word “no” has almost

🌿 Good morning, NewGrapes family!
Come sit with Spurgeon by the fire — our daily Morning & Evening series starts today on the site!
March 6 hits deep:
Morning – “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7)
Evening – “Before destruction the heart of man is haughty” (Proverbs 18:12)
Outward religion means nothing without the new birth… and pride always walks one step ahead of destruction. My short reflection shares how this pair stirred my own heart this morning.

Morning Devotional "Ye must be born again." — John 3:7 Regeneration is a subject which lies at the very basis of salvation, and we should be very diligent to take heed that we really are “born again,” for there are many who fancy they are, who are not. Be assured that the name of

Hey friends,
Have you noticed how modern culture has quietly turned romance into a substitute religion?
It’s not loud or aggressive — it’s subtle. Movies, shows, books, and endless social media reels keep selling us the same story: “Find the right person and your life will finally feel complete.” Love becomes the savior. Passion becomes our highest pursuit.
We’ve moved from stories like Pride and Prejudice — where romance still lived within moral order and providence — to Bridgerton and The Notebook, where all-consuming passion is presented as the ultimate redeemer. God is quietly written out of the script.
Jonathan Edwards warned us in Religious Affections that our hearts are tested by what we love most. When romance takes the throne, something much deeper gets pushed aside.
Spurgeon said it straight: “The heart that is given to the world is not given to God.”
Even Tony Reinke shows in 12 Ways Your Phone Is Changing You how constant exposure to “couple goals” and soulmate reels trains our hearts to chase emotional highs instead of lasting joy in Christ.
The result? We slowly replace true submission to God with self-fulfillment. We trade the cross for dopamine.
But here’s the beautiful hope: Real love was never meant to replace God — it was always meant to point us back to Him.
What if we started reclaiming romance as a reflection of Christ’s love for His bride? (Ephesians 5:25)
I’d love to hear from you tonight:
Has culture’s version of romance affected the way you view love and faith? What’s one movie or show that shaped how you think about relationships?
Drop your thoughts in the comments — I read every single one.
More Wilderness Reflections coming soon.
But here’s the beautiful hope: Real love was never meant to replace God — it was always meant to point us back to Him.
What if we started reclaiming romance as a reflection of Christ’s love for His bride? (Ephesians 5:25)
