Sunday's message was both encouraging and challenging, simultaneously uplifting the people of God while pushing them outside of their comfort zone.
Bishop Paulette Farrow Bryant taught from the topic: Turning the world upside down.
Scripture text: Acts 17:5-9, 17 ESV
In this text, a three day revival in the synagogue had taken place. Paul, Silas, and Timothy didn't have money, popularity, social medic, or even a platform, yet heaven backed them! These believers were so committed to Jesus to the point their presence disturbed the status quo. The people of Thessalonica declared they were turning the world upside down!
A mob formed to hunt these men of God down. Unable to locate them, the mob attacked the house of Jason. This text shakes souls! Whereas, in the text the phrase "turning the world upside down" wasn't a compliment, it was a testament to the Holy disruption the men of God caused.
Here are examples of what turning the world upside down entails:
📖 exposing what sin has covered up
📖 flipping darkness into light
📖 replacing deception with truth
📖 replacing despair with hope
📖 carrying a message that cannot be silenced
📖 causing holy disruption
📖 living so powerfully for Jesus that the world can't stay the same
What was stated out of anger turned out to be a compliment. When the Gospel of Jesus Christ shows up, the status quo should get shaken up; impacting communities not just the church. The Gospel is not passive! The accusations came when the men of God refused to cover up who they were. Their influence came from the power of the Holy Ghost. We must refuse to bow under pressure.
God is looking for believers to stand for righteousness even when it's unpopular. This text reminds us that God specializes in using ordinary people in extraordinary ways. Even when it may cost you your life. Let's turn the world upside down!!!🙏🏾🔥
