Interfaith Refugee Ministry New Bern

Interfaith Refugee Ministry New Bern Interfaith Refugee Ministry is a dedicated to helping refugees rebuild their lives in eastern North Carolina.

Our task is to assist refugees with the basic necessities when they first arrive in New Bern and surrounding areas. This includes, but is not limited to, assistance with housing, food, clothing, employment, learning English, and cultural orientation. The ultimate goal is to help refugees become self-reliant, emotionally secure and culturally adjusted in their new home. Each year, Interfaith Refuge

e Ministry resettles new refugee families from around the world. Our staff, working with volunteers, civic groups and faith communities, ensures each refugee will receive basic initial support as they begin a new life in a strange land. We try to provide a bridge for these persecuted people who are coming out of the darkness of a shattered life into the bright hope of a better future.

Some of our favorite moments don’t happen in an office. They happen around food, music, and shared stories.

Picture a room in New Bern filled with families from around the world:
– Kids laughing over a game
– Parents connecting with volunteers
– Plates filled with dishes that taste like home
– A song, a dance, or a new word being shared

These gatherings help turn “this new place” into “our community,” creating space for friendship, cultural pride, and joy.

We host events that bring refugees, volunteers, and neighbors together so everyone feels seen and included. Visit helpingrefugees.org/staff to learn more or connect with our team.

Families from refugee backgrounds in New Bern may soon face renewed immigration reviews under Operation PARRIS. While nothing is certain yet, we're working to be ready so no family has to navigate this alone.
Your support helps us provide essential resources like:
• Legal representation during potential
USCIS reinterviews
• Preparation sessions to review case history and documents
• Interpreting and trauma-informed support
• Rapid-response casework if detention or enforcement concerns arise
By strengthening our readiness now, we can help protect due process and ensure families are treated fairly. If you're able, a proactive gift of $50, $100, or $250 makes a real difference in building these protections. Thank you for standing with our community.
Donations may be made on our website at

Welcome to an evening of community, music, dance, and an exquisitely prepared small-plate menu featuring cuisines from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America.

Some of the quiet heroes behind our work are the people who give a little each month.

Their steady support means we’re ready when a refugee is experiencing food insecurity, assistance with a higher-than-normal utility bill, new clothes for a growing child, or legal assistance for the newly implemented interview process with USCIS.

Monthly gifts help provide attorney representation, preparation sessions so families understand the process, interpreting and trauma-aware support, and rapid response when someone urgently needs help.

Because of this consistent generosity, we can say “yes” right away when a family’s safety and future are on the line.

If you’d like to become a monthly partner, you can set up a recurring gift at helpingrefugees.org.

Legal support is only one part of rebuilding a life. True stability also comes from the everyday moments that help families feel confident and rooted.

In any given week, you might see:
– Parents practicing interview skills
– Adults learning English
– Students receiving tutoring
– Families getting help with medical paperwork
– Neighbors providing transportation for food support

Each of these moments builds a sense of calm, dignity, and possibility, even in certain times.
