Rector's Bible Study: The Gospel of Mark
The Rector’s Bible Study resumes on Wednesday, September 16th. This Fall, we will journey through the Gospel of Mark. Mark, it is believed, was the first Gospel written and influenced the writing of Matthew, Luke, and others. While a fast-paced Gospel, it is packed with details that make it unique. The class is interactive
and engaging, a great chance to get to know fellow parishioners, and a chance to dive a little deeper in Scripture. No prior knowledge of the Bible is necessary! BYO-Bible, and if you don’t have one, we have plenty you can use!

The next session of our Contemplative Group starts September 21. We will be studying the book, Braving the Thin Places: Celtic Wisdom to Create a Space for Grace, by Julianne Stanz.
A “thin place” is where God’s grace is waiting to happen at a crossroads on our spiritual journey. These are in-between times, moments of transition when we
find ourselves closing one chapter and exploring ways to cross over the threshold into a new chapter in our life story.
In these sacred spaces, we encounter God, ourselves, and our relationship with others in ways of authentic truth. Author Julianne Stanz states, “Truth makes its home in these broken-open places. As we become more understanding and
compassionate, we open up to new ways of seeing, fresh avenues of thinking, and ultimately, transformed ways of being.”
This fall, come and join the Contemplative Prayer Group as we explore and brave the thin places where God and humanity meet in life-giving ways. We meet Monday mornings at 11:30 am in the Pelletier Room. A zoom option is also available. For more information and to sign up, contact Rev. Barbara Bornemann at [email protected].

GIG is getting ready for our 11th year to start on Monday, September 28. We are looking for more volunteers to join this amazing afterschool program. Our only requirement is that you love children. We are seeking mentors who work one-on-one with the students (no teaching background required), van drivers and riders, and substitutes for these roles.
We meet Monday-Thursday, 3:30-5:00 pm. Volunteers can come one or more days a week. Our volunteers also find this program to be a very rewarding experience! If you’re interested or have questions, please contact: Debbie Fodrie -- [email protected] / 252-675-8358. Our Volunteer Orientation Meeting will be at 5:30 pm, Thursday, September 17 in the GIG Room, across
Po***ck Street from the church.

Every Sunday morning we have children and youth run through the hallways eagerly going to their Sunday School rooms, where they play, learn, and grow in their faith. Sunday School is where the secular world of learning meets faith
formation. What makes it the most special is the teachers. As a Sunday school teacher you are invited into young ones’ faith development. You are invited to grow your own faith through the lens of a child-like wonder.
What does being a teacher looks like? Sunday School is a place to learn and grow your faith. The only thing you have to have is willingness to grow and learn. We have a fantastic easy-to-follow curriculum that tells you all you need to know.
We need you to make Christ Church’s Sunday School program thrive. Talk to Hannah about signing up to help at [email protected].
