🎵🎶Greetings and “Notes” from your Liturgy and Music Director🎶🎵
In the Gospel of John for the Sixth Sunday of Easter, we find Jesus speaking words of profound comfort to His disciples as He prepares for His departure. He promises, "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you". This promise of an Advocate—the Holy Spirit—serves as a beautiful bridge to our celebration of Mother’s Day, as both reflect a love that is constant, protective, and deeply present. The Holy Spirit has been alive and well at Seton with 30 of our youth celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation recently!
Jesus describes the Holy Spirit as "another Advocate" (or Paraclete) who will remain with us always. An advocate is someone called to one's side to offer support, guidance, and strength. For many of us, our mothers were our very first advocates. Long before we could navigate the world on our own, they were the ones who stood by us, teaching us right from wrong and guiding us toward truth.
The core of this Sunday’s message is that we are never alone. Jesus promises that the Spirit "remains with you and will be in you". On Mother’s Day, we recognize that a mother's love remains a part of us regardless of distance or time. Whether our mothers are with us today or have gone to their eternal rest, the "spirit" of their love and the lessons they taught continue to dwell within us, just as the Holy Spirit dwells within the soul of every believer.
I can remember my mom, who passed away this year, taught me the rosary and a great deal of the faith I have today, a definite advocate in what I am and what I do today. We would pray the rosary every week as a family in the living room, kneeling on the floor, and that had a profound effect on me in my faith journey. I miss her, but I am so grateful for her being my advocate of faith.
This week, let us pray for all mothers—those who nurtured us, those who are struggling, and those whose presence we miss. May we honor them by living out the "Spirit of Truth" and the selfless love that Jesus calls us to today.
God Bless you all as we continue our Easter Journey together to “Follow Jesus and Serve Others”.
See YOU at Mass!
