Mission Dinner and Deputation Service for Missionaries Barbara and Anthony Manswell

Sunday, November 6, 2022 --- 5:30 p.m.

This promises to be a time of joyous worship, full-out fun, and wonderful music as we celebrate the work God has been doing through them in Trinidad at the Caribbean Nazarene College. Our faith promise funding supports the work of missionaries like the Manswells, and this deputation is their report to us of what has happened because of that support.

Let's unmask together. No, not that kind of mask. There’s another kind of mask, one that many of us have worn all day, every day, for many years.

These are the masks that we wear to show people what we want them to see, masks that we hide behind. Some may wear a mask of confidence to hide their doubt and fear. Some may wear a mask of calmness while anger boils inside. Some may wear a mask of having it all together, while inside they feel like everything is falling apart. Still others may wear a mask of wholeness while hiding scars and open wounds. Wearing such masks can help us avoid feeling vulnerable, but they can also prevent us from connecting with others and can be exhausting to maintain.

At Community Life Church you’ll find a place where you can take your masks off, where it is safe to be vulnerable and real with each other. Come visit us, and let’s unmask together.

We are currently in the middle of National Fire Safety Week. Today I am praying for the firefighters in our communities who put their own lives on the line to keep us all safe. I'll be praying for their safety, their mental health, and for the families they leave behind each time they head to work.

I'd like to invite you to join me in this prayer, and also would love to pray for you as well. What burdens are you carrying that I can join you in lifting up? What blessings have you experienced that I can join you in giving thanks for?

We hope that you can join us tonight as we look at the parables. What are these stories that Jesus told? What are their significance to our lives now? Tonight we'll be looking at a story of a farmer planting his fields, and how all of us are casting seed all the time.

We have a great time each week meeting around a campfire at our pastor's house. We gather at 5:30 for food, fun, and fellowship time, then start our study at 7:00. And, of course, we have s'mores once the fire burns down a bit.
