May 3 ~ The Fifth Sunday of Easter
We are reminded in the Acts of the Apostles, that after the Resurrection “the word of God continued to spread, and the number of disciples. . . increased greatly.” That growth of faith was born from the witness of the disciples and from people’s openness to God’s grace. We are now the ones being charged with witnessing to Christ at this time in history. Recall Jesus’ words to the disciples in the Gospel. “Do not be afraid. . . whoever believes in me will do the works that I do.” When we speak about Jesus - the Way, Truth and Life, we need only to rely on his grace, and Christ will bring our efforts to a good end.

April 26 ~ Fourth Sunday of Easter
Today’s Gospel is both comforting and challenging! Jesus likens himself to a Shepherd. A Shepherd knows and calls his own sheep by name, leading them in and out to pasture. Sheep recognize the voice of their shepherd. Imagine in your prayer, Jesus calling you by your name, inviting you to follow him. Do you recognize his voice? Are you willing to confidently follow him where he leads? If your confidence is weak, reread the scriptures and listen again to the words of consolation and encouragement: “you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” – “you are at my side” – “your rod and your staff give me courage” “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly." This week be open to the voice of the Good Shepherd praying for grace to be responsive to His call.

April 12 ~Second Sunday of Easter (Sunday of Divine Mercy)
This Sunday, our scriptures give us clear instruction about how we are to live as disciples. In the reading from Acts, the author describes the disciples’ way of life: “They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers.” Teaching, prayer and Eucharist, sound familiar? Nourished by prayer and our reception of Holy Communion may we be strengthened to bring the peace and mercy of Christ to others. Today, simply pray, “Jesus, I trust in you” and listen as Jesus replies “I trust YOU!”
