📢 BREAKING | Pope Leo XIV will proclaim his first Doctor of the Church: St. John Henry Newman 📜

On July 31, 2025, Pope Leo XIV received in audience Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. During the meeting, he confirmed the positive opinion of the Dicastery's Plenary Session: St. John Henry Newman will be proclaimed a Doctor of the Universal Church.

👉 This is the first Doctor of the Church proclaimed by Pope Leo XIV, a powerful sign of the importance of thought, conscience, and faith lived radically in modern times.

✒️ Who was St. John Henry Newman?
Born in London on February 21, 1801, he was first an Anglican pastor, then converted to Catholicism in 1845. He founded the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in England and was created a cardinal by Leo XIII in 1879. He died in Edgbaston on August 11, 1890.

Philosopher, theologian, educator, and spiritual guide, Newman was beatified by Benedict XVI in 2010 and canonized by Pope Francis in 2019. His reflections on conscience, the role of the laity, and the relationship between faith and reason make him an extraordinarily timely figure.

📖 His thought today is a light for the Church, which seeks to dialogue with the world without losing its soul.
