Last night at the Easter Vigil, our OCIA elect and candidates were welcomed home into the Catholic Church. It was a beautiful Mass! What hope we have to see examples of people choosing to make their relationship with God a priority, to seek the Sacraments and to declare their faith publicly and boldly!

Please keep Elizabeth, Katie, Lisa, Jeremy, SantaLucia, Sarah, Ryan and Dakota in prayer as they enter into the mystagogy period of OCIA and as they start this new chapter in their faith life!

Alleluia! He is risen! Happy Easter!

Today is the most joyful day in the Church as we celebrate the day Jesus conquered sin and death.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 638, states:

The Resurrection of Jesus is the crowning truth of our faith in Christ, a faith believed and lived as the central truth by the first Christian community; handed on as fundamental by Tradition; established by the documents of the New Testament; and preached as an essential part of the Paschal mystery along with the cross:

Christ is risen from the dead!
Dying, He conquered death;
To the dead, He has given life.

Join us for 8am Mass at St. Mary, Trenton or 10:30am Mass at St. George, New Baden. We look forward to seeing you then!

Holy Saturday.

Today we wait. Jesus is in the tomb. In the Apostles Creed we state “…He descended into hell.” On this day, we believe that Jesus went to the Bosom of Abraham and gathered all of the holy souls who had gone before Him. All of the holy men and women who died before Jesus opened the gates of heaven with His sacrifice, were waiting for this moment. So we also wait for the joyful moment when we get sing “Alleluia, He is risen!” as we celebrate our Risen Lord!

Join us tonight for the Easter Vigil at St. George, New Baden at 7:30pm. Katie White (elect), Elizabeth White (elect), Lisa Alberternst (candidate), SantaLucia Duran (candidate), Jeremy Jackson (candidate), Sarah Kohnen (candidate), Ryan McVey (candidate), and Dakota Reckman (candidate) will be welcomed home into the Catholic Church by receiving the Sacraments this evening. Please pray for all those receiving the Easter Sacraments on this Holy Saturday!

Good Friday.

This is the day we commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In the Catholic Church, this is a day of fasting as we remember Christ’s Passion and death.

This is the only day in the church year when Mass cannot be held. The body of Jesus is in the tomb therefore hosts and wine cannot be consecrated on this day. Any hosts received on Good Friday at the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion were consecrated on Holy Thursday.

We will celebrate the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion at St. Mary, Trenton at 7pm. We hope you will join us as we continue to celebrate the Holy Triduum.

Holy Thursday.

Today is when the Church commemorates the Institution of the Holy Eucharist, consecrates holy oils for the sacraments, and celebrates Jesus' institution of the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Today is also when Jesus gave us His humble example of service by washing the feet of his Apostles.

Holy Thursday marks the beginning of the Triduum, the shortest liturgical season in the Church. Mass tonight will be held at St. George at 7pm. We hope you’ll join us as we enter into this liturgical season and as we continue to prepare our hearts for the Resurrection.

Today is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. This is the day we commemorate Christ’s entry into Jerusalem as onlookers cried “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” Palms were laid down for Jesus as a sign of special honor and respect.

Be sure to put your Blessed palms in a prominent place in your home. These can be brought back to the church next Ash Wednesday to be burned.
