If you've ever been confused by the Ascension, you're in good company! What if the God who comes down--down to our level, down to our lives, down to the muck and mire of sin and death--also wants us to look up?

Join us for worship this morning at 11am to celebrate Christ's Ascension and this Seventh Sunday of Easter.
(Livestream link in the comments)

Today's mission collection will be for Miracle Sunday, a UMC-wide initiative uniting 30,000 congregations worldwide and raising funds for theological education around the world.

In today's video, hear from Pastor Caleb who ministers to people who live in a graveyard. As you listen, hold this prayer in your heart:

Lord, use our gifts, our prayers, and our lives to transform the world like Jesus.

Later this Summer we'll do a worship series called "Singing the Faith" where we'll put scripture and hymns in conversation with one another! But, every Sunday is a Sunday we "sing the faith!"

Today, we'll sing from the United Methodist Hymnal:
“O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing”
"Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise"
“There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy”
“In the Garden”
“Because He Lives”

Come join us!

See you in person at 11am, or on livestream if you're sick, homebound, or traveling:

Today we hear the story of Stephen, a minister to the poor widows in the early church, and a preacher of the good news. Stephen was killed for his faith but before he died, he commended his soul to God and forgave those who persecuted him.

Discipleship Challenge this week:

Ask God to illuminate your role in the church. Are you a preacher? An advocate for the poor and hungry? Ask God to give you courage, hope, and mercy for others, even in the face of trouble.

We'd love to worship with you at 11am. If you're traveling, sick, or homebound, join us on Youtube here and let Pastor Annie know if she can bring you and yours communion:

What were the marks of the early church? And how can they inform our ministry following Christ today?

Today we'll continue to study Acts 2 as we examine the "acts" of a church living with resurrection joy.

This morning we read an odd passage for the Easter season, a slice of the Pentecost story in Acts!

Peter gave a long sermon. He was interrupted by a man who asked "[having heard this message...] now, what do we do?"
Peter replied:
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

The good news is and should be *good* to all--who is "far off" in our church? Our community? When we look around the sanctuary who isn't here? Is it by accident of where they were born or culture? Or is it a side effect of the way the church has treated the poor, the outcast, people who look or act differently from "us?" As we go forward in ministry we do so with an eye toward those who have gone on long enough being "far off" from the Risen Christ's promise of love, grace, and wholeness. No one is too far off for God's reach. No one should be too far off for the church's friendship.

Let us preach the good news with our lives this week. That old Sunday School sermon still preaches: "Jesus loves you."

We lift up in prayer all those in need this morning, especially those caught in the cold, immigrants, the sick, emergency responders and law enforcement. May God's peace cover the earth as the snow. May God's loving kindness permeate our world like the cold. May all of us bless the Lord as we bless one another, as we see the face of Christ in the stranger. And for those of us alone in our homes weathering this storm, warm our hearts and keep us safe, body and soul. Be near to us, Lord. Fill us with you wisdom, peace, hope, and courage to live as your beloved and baptized children following you all our days.

Amen.
