In this Sunday message, Religion and Traditions — Part 2, we look at the warnings Jesus gave to the religious leaders of His day and how those same dangers can still harm churches today.

Jesus rebuked leaders who placed heavy burdens on people, elevated man-made traditions, and focused more on outward religion than a true relationship with God. This message reminds us that God desires more than religious performance — He desires a personal relationship with Him.

When traditions become more important than God, they can weigh people down instead of leading them closer to Christ. The Word of God calls us back to truth, grace, humility, and sincere faith.

Scriptures:
Matthew 23:1-22
Mark 7:6-9, 13, 16
Colossians 2:8-12
2 Timothy 3:16-17

Message Theme:
It is not about religion built on man-made traditions — it is about a real, personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

✨ DAY 18

God Promises to Fight for You

📖 Scripture:

Exodus 14:14
“The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

You do not have to fight every battle in your own strength.

Some things are not won by striving harder, speaking louder, or carrying more pressure. Some battles are won by standing still and trusting the God who goes before you.

He sees what is against you.
He knows what is weighing on you.
He understands what you cannot fix on your own.

And His promise still stands:
He will fight for you.

Today, release the need to control every outcome.
Let peace become your posture.

The battle is not too big for the God who holds you.

2 Timothy 1:

7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Isaiah 35:

4 Say to those who are fearful-hearted,
“Be strong, do not fear!
Behold, your God will come with vengeance,
With the recompense of God;
He will come and save you.”

Psalm 138:

8 The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

Romans 8:

38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Philippians 4:

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

To all the mothers and spiritual mothers of God’s church: thank you.

Thank you for your prayers, your love, your encouragement, your sacrifice, your teaching, and your faithfulness. The church is stronger because of women who keep loving, serving, praying, and pointing others to Jesus.

You are needed. You are loved. You are appreciated.

Happy Mother’s Day from Nesmith Baptist Church.

✨ DAY 17

God Promises to Hear You

📖 Scripture:

1 John 5:14
“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”

Your prayers are not disappearing into silence.

God hears you when you call.
He hears the words you speak.
He hears the tears you cannot explain.
He hears the quiet prayers whispered from a tired heart.

His promise to hear you is not based on perfect words.
It is rooted in His love, His nearness, and His faithfulness.

Even when the answer has not arrived yet, heaven has heard.

So keep praying.
Keep trusting.
Keep bringing your heart before Him.

Today, rest in this confidence:
God hears you.

1 Corinthians 1:

10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

2 Corinthians 13:

11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

Galatians 3:

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

John 13:

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Philippians 2:

Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

Mary said yes to God’s plan.

Others may not have understood. Some may have looked down on her. But Mary carried the One who is the Gospel — Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.

For nine months, she carried the promise of God in faith, humility, and obedience. What looked confusing to people was part of God’s perfect plan.

Never forget: God can choose the one others overlook and use them for something eternal.

DAY 16

God Promises New Mercy

📖 Scripture:

Lamentations 3:22-23
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed… They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

Yesterday did not use up God’s mercy.

His compassion is not running low.
His grace is not nearly empty.
His faithfulness is not wearing thin.

Every morning, God meets you with mercy that is fresh, sufficient, and already prepared for the day ahead.

You may wake up carrying regret, weariness, or the weight of what did not go right.
But God does not ask you to step into today empty.

He gives mercy for this morning.
Grace for this moment.
Strength for this day.

Today, receive what He has already promised:
New mercy is here.

Romans 12:

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Hebrews 12:

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Psalm 100:

Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
3 Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
5 For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.

It’s all in God’s timing.

Sometimes we get impatient and want everything now. We want the answer now, the blessing now, the door opened now, and the problem fixed now. But God sees what we cannot see.

His timing is not always our timing, but His timing is always best. He knows what is for our good, and He knows exactly when to bring it to pass.

Keep trusting Him in the waiting.
