Chester Lloyd Smith, age 83, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday morning, May 30, 2026, at National Health Care Center in Joplin, Missouri. He was born on September 5, 1942, in Exeter, Missouri, to the union of the late Earl and Lily Maud (Painter) Smith.

Lloyd was a lifelong resident of Joplin and a 1960 graduate of Joplin High School. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, carrying out his duties with honor and a strong sense of responsibility. While on a respite from the Army, Lloyd married LaJean Whitlock on July 5, 1967. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to Joplin and began his career in construction, where he found both purpose and pride in honest labor. He was a member of Carpenters Local Union #311 since 1961, a connection that reflected his long commitment to his trade.

He was employed for more than thirty years with G&G Construction, retiring in 2004. Lloyd took great pride in his work and was known for his steady presence and strong work ethic. He felt very fortunate to have the same occupation as Jesus, a sentiment that reflected the humility and meaning he found in building and serving with his hands. His life’s work was not only a livelihood, but also a reflection of the values he carried throughout his years. For many years he attended Central Christian Center in Joplin and most recently The Sheep Shed near Neosho. In his personal life, Chester enjoyed fishing and playing Bingo with his beloved wife, LaJean. These simple pleasures brought him joy and created cherished memories that remained close to his heart.

Chester is survived by his three children, Jeanie Gorham and her husband, Gerald, of Gadsden, Alabama, Mel Smith of Gadsden, and Carrie Ann Wakefield and her husband, Roy, of Joplin, Missouri. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and he was awaiting the arrival of Nolan and Hazlee. In addition, he is survived by a host of other family members and friends who will remember him with love and gratitude.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lily Maud Smith; his wife, LaJean Smith, on June 13, 2008; a great-granddaughter, Rozlyn Greene; and his twin brother, Lester Floyd “Smitty” Smith.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2026 at Central Christian Center in Joplin, Missouri with Doug Wilkerson officiating. A graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter, Missouri with full military honors. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Blake Bock, Kyle McGuire, Greg Smith, Colton Smith, Brayden Reed and Brittany Reed. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to the Rozzy Foundation (visit www.therozzy.com for information and donation). Arrangements are under the care of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.

We received a good report on “Gerald B.” today! From sister, Pat..”Well, praise the Lord.... When I walked into his hospital room today, he was sitting in the chair, no tube in his nose, telling me they had been walking him and that he was probably going to rehab later this week. I asked the doctor about the blockage and she said it will open up as he gets stronger. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 Prayers are definitely being answered.”
Please send him a get well card and continue to pray for full recovery..

Dianne Lee Carmichael

June 15, 1962 – May 16, 2026

Dianne Lee Carmichael, age 63, passed away on May 16, 2026, in Galena, Kansas. She was born on June 15, 1962, in Portland and spent much of her life in Oregon, Montana, Missouri and Kansas.

Dianne was a woman of deep faith, compassion, creativity, and humor. She served faithfully as the Children’s Church Director and the Hands Together Puppet Team Director at The Sheep Shed Church, where she brought joy to countless children and families through her handmade puppets and uplifting spirit. She lovingly built ten puppets herself and often spoke of her dream to build ten more. Making people laugh and smile was one of her greatest gifts.

She grew up attending and was baptized at Salt Creek Baptist Church and carried those roots of faith and service throughout her life.

Dianne attended Campus Elementary, Talmadge Junior High, and Central High School. She treasured simple moments with family and nature, especially fishing at Detroit Reservoir, where some of her happiest memories were made casting a line near the dam.

As an attendee and supporter of the Amputee Coalition, Dianne completed training to become a Certified Peer Visitor so she could encourage, support, and guide fellow amputees facing difficult transitions. Her compassion for others came from lived experience and a sincere desire to help people feel less alone.

Dianne was a long-time member of her local TOPS Club. One of her greatest accomplishments in tops was becoming a century club medallion winner.

Dianne also deeply loved her dog, Joey, who brought her comfort and companionship.

She will be remembered for her warmth, humor, resilience, faith, creativity, and servant’s heart. Her life touched many people across generations, and the joy she gave to others will continue to live on through the memories she created.

Dianne is preceded in death by Clara Bryant, mother and Perry Carmichael, father. Dianne is survived by brothers Perry Carmichael, Jr., F. Kelly Carmichael and sisters Joan Lambert, Sharron Livengood, and Susanne Carmichael. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Confession to Speak Over Your Life

Father, You know the needs I have even better than I do. I trust You with every part of my life, including my finances. I stand in faith for Your Word to come to pass that all my needs are met according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
And I thank You for it!

Scripture Reference: Philippians 4:19

“Today is the first day of the rest of our lives”….let’s go into the new week with the correct mindset..the mind of Christ. Here is a Declaration to Speak Over Your Life…

I believe breakthroughs are coming in my life, sudden bursts of God’s goodness.

Not a trickle. Not a stream. But a flood of God’s power.

A flood of healing. A flood of wisdom. A flood of favor.

I choose to live a breakthrough-minded life.

I believe that God will use me to be a breakthrough type of blessing in someone's life today.

I am expecting God to overwhelm me with His goodness and amaze me with His favor.

This is my declaration, in the Name of Jesus!
