If you’ve ever wondered why marriage can feel like endless schedules, bills, and small arguments, we’re asking a bigger question: what if God designed your marriage to do more than make you happy? We close our Marriage as a Mission series by re-centering everything on faithfulness rather than perfection, and by treating marriage as a living picture of the gospel. When Christ stays in the middle, our relationship becomes more than companionship; it becomes a message people can watch.

We get practical about Christian discipleship and mentoring younger couples. We talk about why transparency matters, how shame isolates marriages, and why couples don’t need you to have it all together to learn from you. The goal is not to build a following for our advice, but to help couples rely on God’s wisdom. Purpose gives marriage staying power, and when a couple begins asking “Who can we serve?” instead of “What can we get?” the whole relationship starts to expand.

We also walk through the legacy of Jim and Elizabeth Elliott and why their short marriage still echoes around the world. Their story is a powerful reminder that obedience outlives comfort and purpose outlives longevity, and that God can use ordinary people and painful chapters to bring eternal fruit. Then we bring it home to everyday life: messy kitchens, thermostat debates, parenting pressure, and the quiet choices to forgive, pray, serve, and invite others in.

If this series has helped you, share it with a couple who needs hope, then subscribe and leave a review so more people can find the show. What’s one intentional step you can take this week to live your marriage on mission?

Fortified cities don’t fall in a vacuum. They fall after a slower collapse most of us miss: the quiet decision to trust something else more than God. Isaiah 17 is blunt about it. Damascus becomes a ruin, Ephraim’s strength withers, and the chapter forces a personal question we can’t outsource: what do we run to when fear gets loud, and the future feels unstable?

We read the full text (ESV) and then work through the historical backdrop of Syria, the northern kingdom of Israel, and the pressures of Assyrian power. Along the way, we trace Isaiah’s main warning about misplaced trust, whether that shows up as political alliances, cultural idols, or “the work of our hands.” The images are memorable for a reason: harvest fields stripped to gleanings, olive branches beaten until only a few berries remain, and strong cities turning into abandoned places. We also take a quick side trail into the Valley of Raphaim and the Bible’s giants traditions to clarify what Scripture says and doesn’t say.

The turn in the chapter is just as striking as the judgment. Isaiah points to a remnant that looks back to its Maker, rejects idols, and learns again that the Lord is the Rock of refuge. And when nations roar like raging waters, God’s rebuke shows how fragile “unstoppable” threats really are.

Your marriage is already preaching a sermon. The question is whether anyone can see Jesus in it when the coffee is cold, the laundry is piled up, and you’re both tempted to prove a point.

We wrap up our “Marriage as a Mission” series by digging into legacy: not the kind measured by money, square footage, or social media highlights, but the kind Scripture talks about. We connect Psalm 78 and Ephesians 5 to the everyday reality of marriage, where patience, grace, forgiveness, and unity become a visible picture of the gospel. We also get honest about how easy it is to coast, tolerate each other, or chase feelings instead of purpose, and why consistent faithfulness is the real inheritance worth leaving behind.

Then we turn outward to Christian marriage discipleship. What does it actually look like to mentor younger couples without pretending you have it all together? We share practical, lived-in ideas: open your home, share your story, pray with them, keep the Word central, encourage progress over perfection, show up in the milestones and the messy weeks, and challenge them toward kingdom impact. Our hope is a chain reaction of faith where one strengthened marriage helps another, generation after generation.

Listen in, share this with a couple who needs encouragement, and then leave us a review and tell us: if someone followed your marriage for the next 30 days, what would they learn about Jesus?

08/25/2026

Pride doesn’t look dangerous when things are working. It looks “confident” right up until the moment everything collapses, and we finally ask for help. As we continue our verse-by-verse Bible study through Isaiah, we land in Isaiah 16 where Moab goes from boasting to begging, sending tribute and pleading for shelter like scattered birds with nowhere to land.

We read the full passage and slow down on the tension Isaiah holds so well: real compassion for suffering people alongside a clear-eyed warning about sin. The chapter opens with a plea to “shelter the outcast” and “grant justice,” raising uncomfortable questions about how God’s people respond to outsiders and even former enemies. Then, right in the middle, Isaiah points to hope that outlasts every crisis: “a throne will be established in steadfast love,” a Davidic promise many see as a glimpse of the Messiah and the only reign where justice and righteousness are never compromised.

From Moab’s pride and economic ruin to the silence of vineyards and the futility of praying to powerless idols, we trace what happens when self-reliance replaces humility. We close with practical takeaways for everyday Christian life: walking humbly with God, seeking refuge in Jesus Christ, taking God’s warnings seriously, trusting God’s sovereignty over nations, and keeping compassion even when consequences are real. Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves Bible study, and leave a five-star review so more people can find the show.
