"To me it is just awe inspiring that we worship a holy God," commented one of our women attending the seminar.
We were discussing songs with the word "holy" or "holiness" in them.
This was a follow up from a conversation with one of our teen girls. On the way to a youth conference in Dallas, the young lady listed multiple songs which reference God's holiness, including Prince of Peace which starts out with the words "You are holy."
In our Wednesday night 4,5, and Kindergarten class, we've been talking about the tabernacle and the importance of the priests washing their hands before entering inside. We also are discussing how sacred the Holy of Holies was, and of course, one little boy focused in on the fact that if anyone other than Aaron entered, they would die. God takes holiness seriously.
In the same way, our young adult class on Sunday mornings is discussing our worship in the church today. Danny, our minister, talked about the idea of offering up holy hands, in that we are offering ourselves up clean before the Father. This causes us to pause and examine our actions and motives, if not daily, at least once a week during the Lord's supper. Aren't you thankful the Lord set that time aside for us?
We know that Jesus ultimately cleanses us when we are baptized into Him (Acts 22:16), and we know that He continually cleanses us when we remain in His light (1 John 1:7). What a blessing!
So if Jesus cleanses us, is there any action needed on our part?
Let's spend time looking at that question March 10th and 11th.
How can we prepare for the weekend?
Thinking about songs about holiness might be a good start. Spending time purifying our hearts would be even more meaningful.
What is your favorite song about holiness?
Come and praise our Holy God as we are led in song by some of our young women at Hillcrest.
We hope to see you there.
