Sermon for Sabbayh Sept 12
You know quite a bit about Peter. You know Matthew was a tax collector. You know Thomas had questions. You know James and John were the Sons of Thunder. You know Philip liked to calculate things. You know Nathanael had something happen under a fig tree. But me? Simon the Zealot.
No sermon of mine is recorded. No miracle. No conversation with Jesus. No spectacular failure. No moment where I step out of a boat. No moment where I put my foot in my mouth. Peter apparently felt called to handle most of those.
All you really have is my name. And perhaps... that's enough. Because whatever else that name meant in my day, it tells you something about how I was remembered.
