Join community leaders, friends, students, and neighbors for this annual event, first launched in 2012 by 30 individuals who came together to foster, strengthen, and celebrate Needham's diversity. The annual Summit brings together over 50 formal and informal organizations and groups to participate--from local non-profit and youth associations, to town officials, neighborhood groups, and houses or

worship. Throughout the day-long event, participants explore how to make diversity and equity key elements in our community through discussions, keynote speakers, and participatory discussions.

Brother Dennis Slaughter has been part of Needham's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration for many years, enthusiastically playing the piano and singing, and getting the audience to their feet to sing along to "We Shall Overcome" and "Lift Every Voice and Sing". He believes gospel music is a source of encouragement and hope, especially in troubled times, and serves as the artistic director of the Boston Pops Gospel Choir and the music director at Parkway United Methodist Church in Milton. At this year's event, he will be joined by 3 singers and a saxophonist.

Modeled from geometric designs of animal heads covered by papier-mâché are the 'Into the Woods' puppets.
