The seed to organize a Knights of Columbus Council in Nazareth was planted by some members of Holy Family Parish who were registered with Union Council in Easton, PA. Among this group were John Fischl, Daniel Ruggiero, Joseph Kavcak, Joseph Payonk and Victor Yost. The first me

eting was held September 18th, 1956 and was chaired by District Deputy Paul Matus of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Fischl became the first Grand Knight and served until June 1958. A Charter was issued by the late President Judge William Barthold of Northampton County Courts in 1956. Fifty-six members of Holy Family Parish were officially chartered on October 12, 1957 to form the "Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Council #4282" Knights of Columbus. The first official officers of the Council were Chaplain Rev. Anthony Wortman, M.S.C., Grand Knight John Fischl, Deputy Grand Knight Daniel Ruggiero, Chancellor Joseph Kavcak, Recorder Aloys Yost, Financial Secretary Michael Kavcak, Treasurer Michael Tarnok, Warden Herman Fischl Sr., Inside Guard William Vetovitz and Outside Guard Joseph Morro.

Journey With The Pope

Monday, September 7, 2026
"[This] warns us about the risk of a complacent faith that is satisfied with the outward observance of the law but incapable of feeling and acting with the same merciful compassion as God."
| Pope Leo XIV

Today's Meditation
"My Heart overflows with great mercy for souls, and especially for poor sinners. If only they could understand that I am the best of Fathers to them and that it is for them that the Blood and Water flowed from My Heart as from a fount overflowing with mercy. For them I dwell in the tabernacle as King of Mercy. I desire to bestow My graces upon souls, but they do not want to accept them. You, at least, come to Me as often as possible and take these graces they do not want to accept. In this way you will console My Heart. Oh, how indifferent are souls to so much goodness, to so many proofs of love! My Heart drinks only of the ingratitude and forgetfulness of souls living in the world. They have time for everything, but they have no time to come to Me for graces."
-Jesus to St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, 367

Journey With The Pope

Sunday, September 6, 2026
"The evangelizing mission that Christ entrusted to his disciples requires, above all, hearts that are reconciled and eager for communion."
| Pope Leo XIV

Today's Meditation
"The virtue of fortitude always calls for a certain overcoming of human weakness and particularly of fear. Man, indeed, by nature, spontaneously fears danger, affliction and suffering. Therefore courageous men must be sought not only on battlefields, but also in hospital wards or on a bed of pain. Such men could often be found in concentration camps or in places of deportation. They were real heroes."
-Thomas J. Olmsted
Manual for Men: Pg. 99

Tonight’s Meditation
"The height of perfection is to remain united with God in the midst of the most violent interior temptations, and it is when you are most tempted that God most loves you. Yet, in order that these storms may not overwhelm you, learn to return frequently to the divine fountainhead to renew your strength and to purify yourself more and more in that torrent of grace and love. Receive Communion therefore! Eat the Bread of Life if you wish to live well, if you wish to obtain sufficient strength for the Christian combat, if you wish to possess happiness even in the thick of misfortune."
