Scripture Reading:

Matthew 22:34-46

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” “The son of David,” they replied. He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says, “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.” ’ If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.

This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God, Amen 🙏

“Love the Lord, Your God”

Have you prayed for your pastor this week? Our focused prayer is for EFFECTIVENESS in ministry for all pastors throughout the Trinity Conference, this week.

• Join us as we pray for wisdom. Pray for God to impart wisdom on the pastor, staff, and church leadership that brings the greatest honor to God and the greatest good for God’s people. >> Colossians 1:9–12, I Kings 3:7–9

• Pray for fruitfulness. Many times, when fruitfulness is seen in a ministry, it is because people prayed previously for years for a breakthrough. When the Word of God is declared at every worship service, pray that it would reap a bountiful harvest. >> 2 Thessalonians 3:1, Matthew 9:37–38, Luke 10:2, Galatians 6:9

• Pray for faithfulness. Pray that our pastors will never water down the Gospel, never compromise the Gospel, but declare the truth of the Gospel, no matter how unpopular it may be. >> I John 2:20, Galatians 1:8–9, II Timothy 4:2–5

No matter what today brings, choose joy, trust God’s plan, and make the most of the day He has given you.

Psalm 118:24 says “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”

We still sing out of the hardback hymnals,
No high tech screens.

In a lot of Texas churches, the congregation still sings out of a book. 📖

Not off a screen. Out of a hardback hymnal with a cracked spine, sitting in a wooden rack on the back of the pew in front of you. Somebody posts the numbers, everybody flips, and all the pages turn at once with that sound that does not happen anywhere else on earth. Half the people in the room do not need the book at all and hold it open anyway.

The hymnals themselves end up being a record of the church. Pencil marks in the margins. A pressed flower somebody left in 1974. Pages worn soft at the corners from the four or five songs that actually get sung, and pages still stiff and bright in whole sections nobody has opened in decades. You can tell what a congregation loves by which pages are dirty.

And in a small country church the piano is usually the entire band, played by whoever learned as a kid and never quit. Nobody up there is performing. The singing goes a little flat in places and nobody minds, because the performance was never the point. 🎵

Matthew 22:15-22

New International Version
Paying the Imperial Tax to Caesar
15 Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax[a] to Caesar or not?”

18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, 20 and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”

21 “Caesar’s,” they replied.

Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

22 When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God, Amen ✝️
