For the past 20 years, the Diocese of Alabama has hosted Vocare, an intentional weekend for Young Adults, ages 18-30, inspired by Cursillo. Pilgrims are given the opportunity to explore their God-given vocation in an honest, accepting, and supportive atmosphere. Throughout the weekend Pilgrims hear talks given by fellow young adults about their experiences discovering their Christian identity and
finding their place in the world. With small group discussions and guidance from Episcopal Chaplains from our Diocese, Pilgrims at Vocare have an opportunity to explore questions about their faith and their future at a time that for many can feel confusing and chaotic. For many pilgrims Vocare has been a sacramental experience, and one that encouraged prayerful and intentional discernment of calling and vocation. Pilgrims leave Vocare with the strength and supportive community they need to make important decisions, and we keep that community growing year after year to always have a network of friends and support for all pilgrims, past and present.
“Vocare” is a form of a Latin word meaning “to call.” The Vocare weekend is a renewal weekend addressed to young adults in a time when they face many serious decisions that set the direction for much of their adult life. The one thing you have to offer your God is your life at its deepest level, how you use your thoughts and attitudes, how you spend your time, and what you say and do with others around you. Now let’s see whether we can help one another to answer the calling God has made to you through Jesus Christ, the Lord of our lives.
