C — Consecrated Life

SANCTIFICATION EXPLAINED

Sanctification is the ongoing work of God by which believers are made holy in character and conduct. It begins when a person places their faith in Christ and continues throughout their life as they grow to become more like Jesus.

The Bible presents sanctification in three aspects:

1. Positional Sanctification (Past) – At salvation, believers are set apart for God.
* “But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ…” (1 Corinthians 6:11)
1. Progressive Sanctification (Present) – The lifelong process of growing in holiness through the work of the Holy Spirit, obedience to God’s Word, prayer, and fellowship with other believers.
* “For this is the will of God, your sanctification…” (1 Thessalonians 4:3)
* “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
1. Perfect Sanctification (Future) – When Christ returns or believers enter His presence, they will be completely free from sin.
