Statement in Support of our Fellow Faith Communities and Against Hate

This past weekend, the First Congregational Church of Natick (FCC) and Christ Lutheran Church Natick (CLC), along with several other churches in the greater Boston area, were targeted by vandals. The vandals tore down rainbow flags and other symbols of LGBTQIA+ inclusivity, and left hateful messages. You can read more about the incident and statements by the churches, and in support of them, at this link: https://www.natickma.gov/DocumentCenter/View/17866/Town-of-Natick-Statement_Hate-Incidents_FCC-CLC_7-28-24

Temple Israel of Natick stands with the town leadership and our fellow congregations for inclusivity and against bigotry of all kinds. We have reached out to the congregations to offer our support. Rev. Cindy Worthington-Berry of FCC and Rev. Christopher Gilbert of CLC have asked us to pass on an invitation to stop by First Congregational Church of Natick (2 East Central St.) during Natick Nights this week, Thursday, August 1, 5:00-8:00 PM, to celebrate community, create art together, collect Pride swag, and declare to all that “Love is Louder” than hate, bigotry or fear.

May this incident remind us, as do many teachings about the upcoming commemoration of Tish’a B’av, to stand up against acts of hatred, here and around the world, and to rededicate ourselves to acts of lovingkindness.

Tonight, 7:30pm:
Zoom for interested teens in learning more about Hadar's Moot Beit Din Court Competition --
Info session with Yitzhak Bronstein, the director of Hadar's Maimonides Moot Court Competition for high school students. MMCC is an annual competition that empowers teens to debate contemporary cases using Jewish legal wisdom. The conference begins with a shabbaton that attracts an international cohort of students from across North America and Israel, which will take place in New York from April 4-7.

Our competitions are structured around a detailed case alongside a curated sourcebook of traditional and modern Jewish texts. Teams develop arguments using the provided source material to address the questions presented in the case. Cases in recent years have addressed timely issues including medica...
