Thomas Aquinas Newman Center. On Feb. 11, 1968, Bishop Greco established Holy Cross as a non-territorial parish for campus ministry at Northwestern State University. Holy Cross is the only campus ministry parish in the Diocese of Alexandria of Louisiana.

Habemus Papam! We have a Pope! His Eminence Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost, born in the United States of America, has been elected the 267th Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church. He has chosen the name Leo XIV. Pope Leo is a member of the Augustinian order and served as a bishop in Peru. Welcome, Pope Leo, and thank you for accepting the responsibility of serving as the shepherd of the universal Church!

This evening I celebrated a Confirmation Mass at Holy Cross Church in Natchitoches. There were ten young women confirmed (six high school students and four university students). Thank you to Father Jose Pallipurath, Deacon Richard Mitchell, the parents, sponsors, catechists, Focus Missionaries, and the parishioners for their prayers and support of these Confirmandi.

There will be a Memorial Mass for His Holiness Pope Francis on Saturday, April 26 at 10:00am at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. We invite all in the Diocese of Alexandria to come together as one Church to pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis.

This afternoon I had the pleasure of learning about Catholic campus ministry at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. I visited the Catholic Student Center and spoke with (l to r) Father Jose Pallipurath, Pastor of Holy Cross Church, and FOCUS missionaries Abigail Gutierrez, Adam Berdych and Kelby Toups about the many ways in which the ministry serves the NSU community.
