The Basilica of Saint Mary

The Basilica of Saint Mary Welcome to St. Mary Basilica
Recognized as an architectural masterpiece among Catholic churches in the south, it is the spiritual home of a vibrant St. The St.

Mary Catholic community today. The construction of this place of worship was begun in 1842 as the Cathedral of the newly established Diocese of Natchez. Mary congregation takes pride in the basilica's colorful and prayerful setting, and welcomes visitors from near and distant places. The city of Natchez, on the Mississippi River and the birthplace of Mississippi, is a tourist destination because of its historic antebellum homes. St. Mary Basilica, also antebellum, is the city's central landmark.

Fr. Aaron announces the “Campaign for the Sacred Heart”. Beginning in the Fall, we will launch a movement in our parish to restore our homes. One of the promises of the Sacred Heart is “I will establish peace in their homes”. We will reinvigorate parish Eucharistic adoration, promote the First Friday Devotion, and encourage families to enthrone the Heart of Jesus in their homes — with a goal of 300 enthronements by next Summer.

On Thursday, June 11, the US Bishops will consecrate the United States to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Bishop Kopacz has transferred the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart to this upcoming Sunday, so that all the parishes of our Diocese may participate in this act of consecration. At each Mass this weekend, we will recite together the prayer of consecration as we consecrate our city and nation to the Lord Jesus.

The USCCB has made the following prayer available for personal use and for families who wish go participate in this act of consecration together in the home.

A temporary structure has been built over the Marian altar to protect it while the Seven Sorrows window is removed for restoration. This window has the most extensive damage and it will be removed for a few weeks while the window frame is remade.

This weekend, Fr. Aaron celebrates eight years of priestly ordination. Please remember him in prayer as he begins his ninth year of priesthood and his fifth year in Natchez.

O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests;
for your unfaithful and tepid priests;
for your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields;
for your tempted priests;
for your lonely and desolate priests;
for your young priests;
for your dying priests;
for the souls of your priests in purgatory.

But above all, I recommend to you the priests dearest to me:
the priest who baptized me;
the priests who absolved me from my sins;
the priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me your Body and Blood in Holy Communion;
the priests who taught and instructed me;
all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way (especially …).

O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart,
and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity.

Amen.
