On this we pause to celebrate the beauty, heritage, and culture of our indigenous siblings. We must also acknowledge and repent of the egregious history of this country in the treatment of indigenous peoples-the US government has enacted policies of violence, genocide, theft, and oppression against the indigenous peoples of the Americas, and this injustice is not located solely in the past. It continues in many forms today. So we also grieve, and commit to working for a just and equitable society.
