🌍 World Refugee Day is 9 days away.

As we prepare to recognize on June 20, we’re answering some of the questions we hear most often about refugees and refugee resettlement in the United States.

One question we frequently receive is: Do refugees contribute to the communities where they settle?

The answer is yes. Beyond enriching our communities through their talents, cultures, and experiences, refugees also make significant economic contributions through employment, entrepreneurship, and tax revenue.

Swipe through to learn more about the economic impact refugees have had in the United States.

Our Nashville Food Pantry is seeing an overwhelming increase in need, serving nearly double the number of participants in just the first six months of this fiscal year.

As more families turn to the pantry for support, we are in urgent need of volunteers to help keep shelves stocked, sort donations, organize food, and support pantry operations.

Right now, you can be the difference for a neighbor facing food insecurity. Even a few hours of your time can help ensure families have access to the food and support they need during difficult times.

In Middle Tennessee, 1 in 6 people face hunger every day.

Together, we can build a stronger, healthier community and empower our neighbors on their path from surviving to thriving.

🌍 With World Refugee Day just 10 days away, we’re taking a moment to answer a question we hear often:

What’s the difference between a refugee, an immigrant, and an asylum seeker?

While these terms are sometimes used interchangeably, each has a distinct meaning and reflects a different journey. Understanding these differences helps us better understand the experiences of the individuals and families we accompany.

Inspiritus was happy to host the Southeastern Synod ELCA deanery meeting last week at the Inspritus Rosa Parks construction site. The clergy have supported the work of Inspiritus for so many years and we love our partnership with them and the local churches. Pastor Rick Roberts

Connection can be powerful medicine.

Introducing Refugee Health Promotion, the newest program from Inspiritus’ Refugee & Immigrant Services team in Nashville.

Our Tea Time Wellness Circle brought together Swahili-speaking women for six weeks of community, conversation, and support. Together, they shared experiences, discussed health and wellness, built coping skills, and formed meaningful connections rooted in trust and belonging.

The impact was clear: 100% of participants completed the program, and many expressed a desire to continue meeting together.

Through Refugee Health Promotion, Inspiritus is creating community-based psychosocial support spaces where refugees can strengthen self-advocacy skills, connect with local health resources, and build supportive relationships as they move from surviving to thriving.

As food costs continue to rise, more families across Middle Tennessee are turning to local food pantries for support.

MSN recently highlighted the growing demand food pantries are experiencing, including the work happening through the Inspiritus food pantry in Nashville.

Behind every statistic is a neighbor, a family, or a senior working hard to make ends meet. We’re grateful for the opportunity to help shine a light on this growing need and the critical role community support plays in helping families put food on the table.

Food pantries across Middle Tennessee are seeing a sharp rise in demand as more families struggle to put food on the table.
