** LIFE IMITATES ORBITER **
ART: Orbiter, our Christian movie still in-progress (slowed dramatically by the 2-year Covid shutdown), is a story in which a couple of Christians come together when the countdown to world war III starts on earth and the station is sabotaged in an act of war.
LIFE: Russian President Vladimir Putin said a couple of days ago that if the U.S. interfered in his communist/socialist version of fascist Hitler-style murderous expansionism, that he would allow the International Space Station to be destroyed because of what would effectively amount to Russian sabotage of the station.
I told a friend from an eastern block country whom I met when I first moved down to Nashville (I have a few of them, now, interestingly) that I thought the movie was doomed because of what is happening in real life; people don't want their horrors to follow them into the theater, they want escape. That person's very eastern sensibility was heartening, however: they said more than just Christians would flock to this Christian movie if it gave them hope and Orbiter is hopeful. So we will see how things work out, but I stand ready at the keyboard to amend those parts of the screenplay not already shot. My friend is right. Maybe Orbiter is not doomed. Maybe Orbiter is needed now more than ever.
By the way, on a political note, I notice all the striden socialists and communists have suddenly gone silent or called Putin a fascist even though he calls the people of the Ukraine N***s.
Guys like socialist Bernie Sanders who had his Honeymoon in communist Russia because he so loves and admires communism, have been lauding Russia as an equitable workers' paradise. Now we see the naked truth: communism is all about raw and unbridled power, greed, and subjugation.
The Soviet Union began under Vladimir Lenin, who, In August 1918, declared war on the kulaks, calling for their complete annihilation. He condoned the Red Army's violent campaign against Jews. He approved the brutal ex*****on of the Imperial family, women and children included.
Lenin was followed by Joseph Stalin. Stalin murdered 40 million of his own people in the "anti-communist purges" and additionally starved 7 million Ukrainians to death back in the day.
Nikita Khrushchev, during World War II, worked with the military to further Soviet control over Poland and Ukraine, created the murderous KGB. was in power during the Cuban missile crisis which brought the world to the brink of nuclear war and predicted he would take over of America ("We will bury you");
Leonid Brezhnev sent over 500,000 Soviet and Eastern European troops to occupy Czechoslovakia and defended the Soviet military invasion of Czechoslovakia, saying in effect, that antisocialist elements in a single socialist country can compromise the entire socialist system, and thus other socialist countries have the right to intervene militarily if they see the need to do so as well as other intense aggressions in expansion of communist tyranny.
Then came Gorbachev, the only one of them worth a damn, mostly who rejected communism, ended the cold war and oversaw the end of the Soviet Union.
The came Communist Yeltsin who unleashed a senseless war on to Chechnya when it decided to secede from the Russian Federation and shelled his own Parliament when opposition arose, murdering 2,000 people.
And now we have ex-KGB agent/officer Vladimir Putin, waging an unprovoked attack on peaceful Ukraine, killing thousands of civilians and threatening the world with nuclear war; war crimes which have been condemned by all except communist China.
That is the essentially nearly-unbroken pattern. That is the history of Russian leaders from the start of the Soviet Union until today. See the pattern? The pattern of murderous aggression by communist/socialist leaders is clear, manifest and unmistakable.
Tell that to angry, deranged Bernie Sanders and his idealistic misanthropes.
In the meantime, pray for peace and tell your politicians to send military assistance to the Ukraine or tell them to get another job.
