Habakkuk 2:14 is “the reason Southern Baptists exist,” said W***y Rice, senior pastor of Calvary Church in Florida and SBC president. Rice said the Southern Baptist Convention exists to bear, declare and multiply the glory of God on Earth. This week, Rice announced the theme of next year’s SBC Annual Meeting at a kickoff event at Harvest Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“I pray for unity where people would see the benefit of the end result of using the [Pastors’] Conference to bring spiritual unity and encouragement,” said Wayne Bray, lead pastor of Upstate Church in South Carolina and president of the 2027 Southern Baptist Convention Pastors’ Conference.

The SBC Pastors’ Conference is a time when pastors and church leaders from across the country gather together for worship, preaching and encouragement from God’s Word.

W***y Rice, senior pastor of Calvary Church in Florida and SBC president, announced the theme for the 2027 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, would be “Fill the Earth,” based on Habakkuk 2:14, which says: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord’s glory, as the water covers the sea.”

Calling it Southern Baptists’ prayer, promise and purpose, Rice said he hopes attendees would leave the 2027 meeting “renewed in our purpose that we’re going to give every last measure of our devotion to seeing it happen.”

Wayne Bray, lead pastor of Upstate Church in South Carolina and president of the 2027 Southern Baptist Convention Pastors’ Conference, shares how next year’s event will focus on helping attendees more deeply understand the calling and role of pastors. Bray chose the theme “A Higher Calling,” based on 1 Timothy 3, where Paul addresses the qualifications of church leaders.
