South End United Methodist Church GATHER - SCATTER - MATTER
South Enders are casual, committed Christ-followers who are connecting their neighbors to a spiritual home and to each other. C.

Our History

In 1855 a church was organized in South Nashville as the Bilbo Avenue Methodist Church and was later known by the names of South Street Mission, South High Street Methodist Church, and South Street Methodist Church. In the summer of 1909, the South Street congregation and members from the Humphries Street congregation came together in a tent meeting for the purpose of organizing a new

church. The cornerstone for the South End Methodist Church was laid on April 3, 1910 at 1400 Eighth Avenue with the first services held in the new auditorium on May 21, 1911. The Edmondson Heights Methodist Church was organized in November 1962 by the Rev. Edward Blackburn and occupied the Garrett home, which was remodeled into a chapel, classrooms, and kitchen facilities. The present day South End United Methodist Church began as a merger of South End and Edmondson Heights. The two congregations met together July 4, 1965. The new sanctuary was completed for the first services on Christmas Eve, 1967.
