The Room In The Inn community gives thanks for the life of our long-time friend Catherine Cothran as her loved ones gather for her memorial today.
Through her expertise and professional work, Catherine helped organizations, including Room In The Inn, build teams that could bring their missions to life. Over the years, she guided us in developing and implementing strategic plans, helped us navigate the expansion of our facilities and services, and mentored both established and emerging leaders.
More than two decades ago, when our staff spent a summer identifying our core values, it was Catherine who helped us put words to the values that had already guided Room In The Inn since our earliest days: spirituality, love, hospitality, respect, hope, community, and nonviolence. She then made sure these values were at the heart of every decision she helped us make.
Though Catherine was an expert in organizational development, she never lost sight of the people behind the work, seeing each of us in our full humanity. She was often the first to ask about our families, donate to a child’s school fundraiser, or give a housewarming gift. And she gave her time volunteering to provide hospitality to shelter guests, living out the very core values she helped us name.
We are deeply grateful for Catherine’s wisdom, generosity, and friendship, and for the lasting mark she leaves on the Room In The Inn community.
