Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Prayer Breakfast Committee is deeply saddened by the passing of former Governor Winfield Dunn, a cherished founder of the Tennessee Prayer Breakfast and a pillar of our state’s history. He is leaving behind a legacy of distinguished public service and unwavering faith.
“Governor Dunn was more than a statesman, he was a man of great faith and kindness,” said Ryan King, 2025 Chairman of the Tennessee Prayer Breakfast Committee. “His vision for the Prayer Breakfast has fostered unity and inspired generations of leaders to seek guidance in faith as they serve the people of Tennessee. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.”
As the 43rd Governor of Tennessee, Winfield Dunn is remembered not only for his visionary leadership but also for his deep commitment to the spiritual well-being of our state. A co-founder of the Tennessee Prayer Breakfast, Governor Dunn's faith and compassion brought leaders from across the state together in prayer, helping establish a tradition that has spanned over 50 years. His dedication to public service was always underscored by his humility and love for the people of Tennessee.
"We will always remember Governor Dunn not just for his leadership, but for his grace and integrity," King continued. "His legacy as a founder of the Tennessee Prayer Breakfast and his service to our state will never be forgotten. He was a true statesman and a person of great faith."
During the 2024 Prayer Breakfast, which featured a special video commemorating the event's 50th anniversary, Governor Dunn reflected on one of the aspects he was most proud of: how the breakfast continues to unite worshippers from all political backgrounds, fostering a spirit of fellowship that transcends everything else.
