Dear Church Family,

Susan and I are listening on the radio to the tributes to Dolly on tonight’s Saturday Night Opry, and we’re not surprised that each singer has a Dolly story of kindness and goodwill. Yes, Tennessee lost its ambassador.

Only a few minutes after her passing on Tuesday, warm stories about this wonderful person eclipsed the constant barrage of negative news and continued throughout the week. I told my kids there have only been a few times in my lifetime when I remember the country being so unified, so enjoy it because it won’t last long.

What stands out to me about Dolly is how she never forgot her roots and used her fame and fortune to bring joy to others. Here’s the scripture that comes to my mind this evening: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Dear Church Family,
Within the last year, at least four of our church families have been hacked and scammed. While I do not know the details, I offer some suggestions for all.
Passwords should be complicated and random, such as H$/i-&4bd@j!-JO8, not “password1234”, nor your birthdate, address, nor names of kids or grandkids. Do not EVER give out any password over the phone.
The only safe way to do a bank transaction is in person.
Be aware that you might get a call from a voice you recognize. One of our members received a call from his grandson asking for money. It wasn’t his grandson! Someone had recorded the grandson’s voice and was using it to make a plea for help.
Consider paying cash at restaurants where you must give your card to someone else for payment. Photos of the front and back of your card can be taken easily.
Beware of grooming. This is when a scammer is after you for the long haul and slowly builds trust with you.
