Lessons: Our Methodist Hymn Composers
Have you ever wondered about the backstory of some of your favorite Methodist Hymns?
Join us on Sunday morning, November 30th, at 11:00 for a special program. Terry Coats, Dan Justice, and Bobby Phillips will present a program in lessons and hymns.
Featured will be hymn composers, Isaac Watts (When I Survey the Wondrous Cross), Charles Wesley (Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing), F***y Crosby (Blessed Assurance), Horatio Spafford (It is Well With My Soul), and John Newton (Amazing Grace).
So many know that Newton was a slave ship captain, but did you know that his conversion was not an overnight event, and he relapsed several times? That there are eight deaths associated with the Spafford hymn, It is Well with my Soul? That F***y Crosby was blind from age six weeks, and she met almost every US president alive during her lifetime?
If you would like to learn more about these and other interesting facts associated with these composers, join us for this special program.
Peace and blessings.
