I swam a half mile today. I now have 1.5 miles towards the five miles of swimming to benefit the American Cancer Society during September.

Thanks for all the well wishes as I recovered from a fall. I am now back into training mode and looking forward to completing the "Swimming for Mission" goal of 73 laps in the local YMCA pool here in Nashville. Today I swam a mile--36 laps--as part of my training. My goal is to raise awareness and funds to support the mission of partner Methodist churches and their affiliated organizations in South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The permanent fund of Encounter with Christ in Latin America & the Caribbean, affiliated with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, allows the interest of the fund to support important projects that help women, youth, children, and special ministries in the region. We will be announcing tomorrow at our virtual Board meeting that Global Ministries has just distributed 11 grants totaling $195,088 for projects this year. You can support the SWIM and help grow the permanent fund with any donation of your choosing, 100% of which goes to the fund to support the mission. Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers after my accidental fall that bruised some ribs on July 6th. After nearly three weeks, I went swimming again today and felt no pain. I was able to swim a half mile in just over 20 minutes. So, I am ramping up for the swim for mission once again.
Join me for the swim and swim as many laps as you want. Let me know if you do and I will send you a T-shirt. Please pray for Encounter with Christ in Latin America & the Caribbean and for the work of our mission partners in South & Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Pray for the countries and people living in the region facing economic hardships, violence, and political turmoil. I am back in the Pool! The pandemic caused me to stop swimming, but I am working out three times a week now, preparing for a new swim before the end of the year.

Last year I had shoulder problems that made it difficult to swim. However, today I got back in pool! I was able to swim 36 lengths after not having swum in months. I have my eyes on preparing for another "Swimming for Mission."

Have been suffering from a rotator cuff injury but anticipating getting back to the pool soon!

After my original swim for mission in 2011 to support the "Cristo Rey" church, today I was able to see the property they bought. Our swim was just a tiny piece of what made the purchase possible among many generous donations, including those from members of the church. This will be their home for many years to come: for Bible Study, youth gatherings and worship. They will build a second story for their Sanctuary. Thanks to all who supported my 2011 and 2014 swims for mission. I'm looking forward to another.
