Friends of Central State Hospital Cemetery-TN

Friends of Central State Hospital Cemetery-TN FCSHC in Nashville, TN. There are two cemeteries that were separated at the time in history. There are an estimated 1700 + individuals buried on the property.

Our goals are to see both marked with signage and accessible to decedents while maintaining the dignity of those who were interred there. Friends of Central State Hospital Cemetery is a group dedicated to refurbishing the old cemetery grounds at the former Central State Hospital in Nashville, TN, to honor those buried there. It has fallen into disrepair and we hope to have it refurbished into a more respectable resting place for those interred there.

The Tennessee Historical Commission is accepting nominations for its Certificate of Merit Awards to honor individuals or groups that work to preserve Tennessee’s heritage. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2025.

Certificates of Merit are presented annually to individuals and groups that have made significant contributions to the study and preservation of Tennessee’s heritage during the 12 months prior to the application deadline. The Tennessee Historical Commission typically presents these awards to the recipients each May, during National Historic Preservation Month.
