The CCC Youth and Casa Kantuta admired the beautiful mosaics downtown made overnight by local schools and religious groups to commemorate the Feast of Corpus Christi. This annual tradition attracts many to the vibrant “alfombras” (carpets) of colorful sawdust lining the streets around Plaza Principal. By late morning, a Eucharistic procession passes through, and the mosaics are all swept away!

The children loved these minute-to-win-it games: guiding an Oreo from forehead to mouth without hands, cup stacking, knocking over cups with a tennis ball in a stocking, balloon keepie uppie with a pool noodle swatting it down, and picking up Skittles through a straw and placing them in a cup!

The Advent pilgrims led the morning reflection in the Villa chapel and retold the story of the disciples stopping the little children from coming to Jesus. Jesus commanded them to let the children come to him and said “the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.” The amigos reminded the children that Jesus always has time to listen to them and wants to be close to them.

In the Bible study with the mamás and tías, Douglas encouraged the group to consider how joyful Jesus was when interacting with people, and we, too, as Christians should be joyful and seek others who inspire joy. Children provide the best example of such joy, and we can learn from their example. The amigos then shared pastries and gifts with the mamás and tías to honor them for their service and to celebrate them ahead of Mother’s Day in Bolivia.

In the afternoon, the group brought a cake for a cumpleañera turning 11 in Casa San Miguel and wrote sweet birthday messages to her. After dancing and games, the group made pillowcases for all the children in Casa San Miguel that read, “Be still, and know that I am God.” -Psalm 46:10

Dinner with the Girls Youth House at Casa Margarita was full of laughter and 19 pizzas! The girls were delighted to take home lunch and dinner for the next day.
