Who is ready for another great Sunday service?! I do hope you will join us as we explore the theme "Recognize the Holy One." Our Scripture for this week shows Jesus in the early days of his ministry. The disciples have been called to serve, but Jesus is still an unknown rabbi.
We know there are many that are looking for a community. If you encounter someone like this please invite them to our service. All are welcome.

Message us for the link to the service, see you at 10:45 am CST!

I was all set to send out the invite for our business meeting and service this week when I was made aware of the violent situation taking place in our nation’s capital. Like many others I tuned into the news confused, scared, angry, and, at some points, hopeless. What I saw yesterday was unlike anything I’ve seen before and God put something else on my heart to share.

This year has produced a lot of events that have left people confused, scared, angry and hopeless. The turning of the year brought hope to many, hope that things would change and be better. Were we mistaken? Is hope lost? Will we continue to get more and more divisive and ideologically driven causing more death and destruction? Most importantly what about the question we ask ourselves each week? Where have we seen God lately? These are all questions I have asked myself in recent weeks/months. It was with these questions that I read our scripture this week.

The scripture for this week comes from Genesis 1:1-5 and details the creation of the universe. It describes the earth as a formless void of darkness. Then God creates light and calls it good. Sometimes situations leave us feeling like we are in the midst of a dark, formless void. We see our world around us become unrecognizable. It is in these moments where God’s creative action occurs.

We are a community made up with unique individuals who will not see eye to eye on some, if not most things, but what I encourage the congregation to do is follow God’s example. Be an active creator. Take situations that feel chaotic and formless and use God’s love to create peace, light, and goodness in the communities and relationships you experience each day. The time to come together is long overdue.

Thank you for your uniqueness and willingness to build God’s Peaceable Kingdom.

Peace be with you,

Cedar Ridge,

Our theme this week is "Defined By Love" and explores Matthew 22: 34 - 46.To me, the heart of the Gospel is stories of people who show that they are rooted in and defined by love through action. We see this in Matthew 22:37 - 39 when Jesus states the first and second greatest commandments.

To be defined by love we must continually ask ourselves if our actions and words are spreading love. Are we living out love as a spiritual practice? This Sunday I look forward to sharing more about how people become defined by love.

Peace be with you,
Blake

MATTHEW 22: 32-46 NLT

*See note below

32 ‘I am* the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob’? So God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”[c]

33 The crowds were profoundly impressed by his answers— 34-35 but not the Pharisees! When they heard that he had routed the Sadducees with his reply, they thought up a fresh question of their own to ask him. One of them, a lawyer, spoke up: 36 “Sir, which is the most important command in the laws of Moses?”

37 Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.’ 38-39 This is the first and greatest commandment. The second most important is similar: ‘Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.’ 40 All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets stem from these two laws and are fulfilled if you obey them. Keep only these and you will find that you are obeying all the others.”

41 Then, surrounded by the Pharisees, he asked them a question: 42 “What about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”

“The son of David,” they replied.

43 “Then why does David, speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, call him ‘Lord’?” Jesus asked. “For David said,

44 ‘God said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies beneath your feet.’

45 Since David called him ‘Lord,’ how can he be merely his son?”

46 They had no answer. And after that no one dared ask him any more questions.

*of the living, i.e., if Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, long dead, were not alive in the presence of God, then God would have said, “I was the God of Abraham, etc.”

Hello Cedar Ridge,

Here is the zoom invite, sorry it is so late in the week. I hope you all are enjoying fall and staying safe! Our theme this week is "Confess our Impatience." What is something you have no patience for? I can't stand waiting in lines, it can be at the checkout, concessions stands, or traffic. Sometimes I have switched lines multiple times because one looked shorter. I'm interested to see what makes our speaker, Dian, impatient.

I'd like to give you a pre-Sunday challenge. Who can you call today to join us for the service? I want to challenge you to send a text, make a call, forward an email, etc to those individuals and invite them to be a part of our Sunday experience. I'll see you and your invitees tomorrow at 10:45 sharp!

Peace be with you,
Blake

CONFESS OUR IMPATIENCE
EXODUS 32: 1-14, The Message

32 When the people realized that Moses was taking forever in coming down off the mountain, they rallied around Aaron and said, “Do something. Make gods for us who will lead us. That Moses, the man who got us out of Egypt—who knows what’s happened to him?”

2-4 So Aaron told them, “Take off the gold rings from the ears of your wives and sons and daughters and bring them to me.” They all did it; they removed the gold rings from their ears and brought them to Aaron. He took the gold from their hands and cast it in the form of a calf, shaping it with an engraving tool.

The people responded with enthusiasm: “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up from Egypt!”

5 Aaron, taking in the situation, built an altar before the calf.

Aaron then announced, “Tomorrow is a feast day to God!”

6 Early the next morning, the people got up and offered Whole-Burnt-Offerings and brought Peace-Offerings. The people sat down to eat and drink and then began to party. It turned into a wild party!

7-8 God spoke to Moses, “Go! Get down there! Your people whom you brought up from the land of Egypt have fallen to pieces. In no time at all they’ve turned away from the way I commanded them: They made a molten calf and worshiped it. They’ve sacrificed to it and said, ‘These are the gods, O Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt!’”

9-10 God said to Moses, “I look at this people—oh! what a stubborn, hard-headed people! Let me alone now, give my anger free reign to burst into flames and incinerate them. But I’ll make a great nation out of you.”

11-13 Moses tried to calm his God down. He said, “Why, God, would you lose your temper with your people? Why, you brought them out of Egypt in a tremendous demonstration of power and strength. Why let the Egyptians say, ‘He had it in for them—he brought them out so he could kill them in the mountains, wipe them right off the face of the Earth.’ Stop your anger. Think twice about bringing evil against your people! Think of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants to whom you gave your word, telling them ‘I will give you many children, as many as the stars in the sky, and I’ll give this land to your children as their land forever.’”

14 And God did think twice. He decided not to do the evil he had threatened against his people.
