Corona Virus has no boundaries it would seem...

•In as quickly as 14 days we went from having responsibility to caring for over 800 kids every week through our feeding program and primary school to having around 100 left in our charge as we have ordered to stay at our homestead/base/farm as Corona makes its way through Uganda.•

•We have, in many ways, become an orphanage overnight. As the first act of our new quarantine lives we decided to feed the surrounding village who are already reeling from the affects COVID19 has on the slow economy in Eastern Uganda.•

•To those of you who’ve stuck with us for years seeing into these kids and especially to those of you who have decided to give in the face of the recent uncertainty to your own lives, thank you! •

•While the timing to care for any child is rarely financially convenient, this time across the world is particularly unique in that we may never again get a chance to see into people with our finances in the face of uncertainty and exercise raw faith. •

•It’s easy to give when you have more than enough but when you have little your gift is the widow’s mite and carries more weight than gold. In truth, I used to hate sayings like this and called these posts and descriptions manipulative.•

•Now being on the other side of this scenario I see clear as day that when the walker is pinched you truly see where someone’s heart and values are.•

•Consider praying for and helping any of these kids even in such a time as this. •

• As always, Given gives 100% of its donations directly to the children in our care. No overhead, no wondering where your money went.

Praying for us all. @ Uganda

Someone asked me last week, “Why do you travel around the world to help kids? Isn’t it dangerous what you do?”
_____________________________

My answer wasn’t profound but my decision seemed to be.
________________________________

The interaction made me think back to countless others I’ve had where I watched someone not revel in my words but in what my answer meant as to how I lived my life.
________________________________

It’s true, I would give my life in the effort to protect children around the world. I would do the same for own kids in a heartbeat!
______________________________

But what I find to be the disarming thought to others as I share my calling to help kids is more simply this... What, if anything are you truly devoted to?
_______________________________

As we survey who we are I’ve found we tend to gravitate toward loftier language about being “faithful” to this or that, but often times what we are faithful to is simply something we are declaring we would never forsake.
_______________________________

I can be faithful to my wife but not devoted to pursuing her. I can be faithful to her and never cheat on her which, in its own right, is an admirable declaration!
___________________________

But I better be devoted to my wife! To me that means I better be pursuing her in an effort to understand her as the beautiful person she is! It means dating her and championing her and making it my mission to draw out of her the dreams God has inside of her, propping her up with whatever she needs to bless the world that is looking on.
____________________________

One of my missions in life is to help kids around the world have a chance at freedom and the life they deserve.
______________________________

What are you devoted to and why does it make you come alive?
_______________________________

If you don’t have an answer don’t worry! I’d rather be stuck on truly contemplating the question than chasing down the wrong answers with all I am.

Baby Michael! Our miracle baby at our Given Uganda base who survived a complicated birth.

He lost his Mother and twin brother at birth because of AIDS but he is thriving and alive and surrounded by an entire village that’s loves and protects him now! Thank you so much for your support.

Michael is one of a handful of monthly sponsored children we have at our Given Uganda base. 100% of your support goes DIRECTLY to the children.

We have another 200 kids available for sponsorship who would love the chance to go to our school full-time and have daily meals and to know what it’s like to be loved.

**Happy birthday Michael!

Follow us and find out how to help kids.

Given Ministries is only 4 years old as a organization!

In that time we have created teams, based and teamed up with people that have been responsible for the rescue and safe-keeping of over 1,000 kids. Just imagine how many more will happen in the next 4 years.

Thank you to all our supporters both now and those to make the decision to partner with us.

I watched when I first visited our Given base in Uganda as a team of people slung heavy water-cans up a hand dug
well/tower in hopes of getting some water for the village. The watershed was constantly low and without reliable water, nothing tends to work for very long.

We now have a brand new Indian drum well which is one of two meant for the whole project for the village reconstruction.

So thankful for our supporters and what you’ve helped us provide for our African friends so far away. You can’t provide freedom without giving life. Here’s to saving and healing so many more around the world.

Thank you, for sponsoring beautiful Peace! I can’t wait till you two meet someday on a trip to the school!!

Coffee is Uganda’s top earning export crop. At our Given Uganda base we have been strategic in buying land plots that not only serve to expand the base for the community and the children we are helping BUT ALSO land that is prime for sustainable coffee crops.

I am so proud that our Uganda community grows, harvests and sells wild Arabica on the open market as a means of sustaining their livelihood.

As the old adage goes...

Give a man a fish and he’s full for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll never be hungry again.

A community that can stand on its own is the hope the region will look to. Here’s to Given Uganda continuing to be be that hope.
