Community Resource: Westminster Home Connection

Staying safe at home is an important part of aging independently, but home repairs and accessibility updates can be costly and overwhelming.

Westminster Home Connection is a Nashville-based nonprofit that provides home repairs and accessibility modifications at no cost to low-income older adults and adults with disabilities.

They may be able to help with:

• Ramps, grab bars, and handrails
• Unsafe flooring and trip hazards
• Plumbing, electrical, heating, or cooling issues
• Roof repairs and other urgent home fixes

These updates can make a big difference in helping people stay safe, comfortable, and independent in the homes they love.

Why aren't more groups doing what Westminster Home Connection does? Westminster sits in the messy middle. We are a both nonprofit and a licensed contractor. We work with older homes owned by low-income older adults, and people with disabilities. Our neighbors need the right mix of compassion and construction skills.

When the need is bigger and the repair cost is higher, Westminster Home Connection accesses Metro Nashville's Barnes Fund to help pay for the affordable housing services.

Westminster Home Connection repairs, modifies, and preserves the homes of older adults and people with disabilities to age in place safely and with dignity, while encouraging and enabling others to do the same.

Westminster Home Connection was born out of devastating 2010 floods. As an outreach of Westminster Presbyterian Church, we discovered a deeper, ongoing need: many people were could not afford essential repairs or accessibility modifications. In response, Westminster Home Connection incorporated as a nonprofit in 2013. Today, we are both a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a licensed home improvement contractor.

As homes age, issues such as failing roofs, unsafe flooring, deteriorating plumbing and electrical systems, and inaccessible bathrooms and entrances can threaten a person’s ability to live safely at home. These conditions can lead to falls, injuries, premature moves to institutional care, or deterioration and loss of affordable housing.

Westminster addresses these challenges by providing critical home repairs and mobility improvements at no cost to eligible homeowners. We empower our neighbors to remain independent, age in place longer, and maintain the wealth and stability they have built through homeownership.
