It’s a great day to hang out watch some college football! But first, the Knights were out at work along Sneed Road this morning cleaning up in front of St Matthew. Now that the work is done, it is time to relax and be grateful for all of God’s blessings!

A huge thank you to all parishioners at St Henry and St Matthew as well as many other generous people in our community who graciously give at our tootsie roll drives! These funds go a long way to help our partners at the Tennessee Special Olympics and other organizations that support people with intellectual disabilities. Your support is appreciated!

Thank you to our wonderful parish staff at St Henry for allowing the Knights to serve at yesterday’s fellowship Sunday!

Council #12012 was recognized by our District Deputy Joe Gomez (center) at our meeting this past Monday night for the sale of Nativity Sets during the Christmas season. Thank you to the leadership of Grand Knight Mark Abolins (right) and Jon Maxwell (left), who spearheaded the logistics of relaunching this wonderful program!

Thank you to everyone who purchased a nativity set this past Christmas season. Through your participation, the Knights were able to raise more than $11,000 for Mulier Care, Hope Clinic (Nashville, TN), and Open Door (Springfield, TN)!

The Holy Father, Pope Francis, 88, has died, the Vatican announced on Easter Monday, April 21. Bishop J. Mark Spalding of Nashville released the statement below.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, on Easter Monday. His humility, faith, and service to God and the faithful left an indelible mark throughout the world. Hallmarks of his papacy included advocating for the poor, environmentalism, interfaith dialogue, support for immigrants, and Catholic Church reform. I especially appreciate his love and support for the people of Nashville after The Covenant School shooting in March 2023.

When Pope Francis succeeded Pope Benedict XVI in 2013 as the 266th Bishop of Rome, he became the first Jesuit pope, the first Latin American pope, the first pope from the Americas, and the first non-European pope in more than 1,000 years.

We take solace in his lasting legacy to live with compassion, courage, and grace. Though we mourn his loss, we continue to “journey together in hope,” just as Pope Francis has invited us to do this Jubilee Year.

I was appointed the 12th Bishop of the Diocese of Nashville by Pope Francis in November 2017. In my two meetings with him, all that he asked of me and the faithful of Middle Tennessee was that we pray for him. So, in this moment, we continue to honor Pope Francis’ request. In the light of our hope in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us offer up a prayer in this moment.

Let us pray: O God, faithful rewarder of souls, grant that your departed servant Pope Francis, whom you made successor of Peter and shepherd of your Church, may happily enjoy forever in your presence in heaven the mysteries of your grace and compassion, which he faithfully ministered on earth.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

Most Reverend J. Mark Spalding, D.D., J.C.L.

Twelfth Bishop of Nashville

GK Mark Abolins (left) presents the Knights Family of the Month award to Don Dean (right), who accepts on behalf of the Dean family!

If you attended one of the lenten Fish Frys at St. Henry this past month, the Dean family had a direct hand in preparing your meal! Don and his son Sawyer could always be found in the orange trailer "Clementine" just outside of the Fellowship Hall, working hard to cook up fish, onion rings, fries, and hush puppies for the masses. Next time you see the Deans around St. Henry, please let them know how much they are appreciated!

We continue to pray for all those affected by last week’s storms. Thank you to a group of St. Celia parishioners, Boy Scouts, and fellow Knights who helped one of our own yesterday. Many hands made light work of a move from one apartment unit to another after the original unit was flooded from Wednesday night’s storms. The entire move took under one hour! We are thankful for everyone’s health and safety.
