More often than not, the enslavement of Indigenous peoples of the Americas is rarely taught but we were the first peoples to experience slavery on this side of the world. The practice of slavery did not start with the arrival of enslaved people from the continent of Africa nor did it stop there. In fact, it continued and in some cases with Indigenous Americans being enslaved alongside Africans on the same plantations. Even afterwards, many of our people were pushed into areas alongside the descendants of enslaved African peoples. Not because we were the same. In fact, we were only viewed as such by those outside of our collectives.

People must become educated on true indigenous history just as they must change the way they think of Indigenous people. Rarely are the popular stories factual.

Another post for Black History Month

For educational purposes only:
We see many use these terms incorrectly either out of ignorance, judgment or to weaponize the terms against others. Sadly, this also happens both in and outside of Indigenous communities. It is our hope that in educating the public, we can dispel myths, bring recognition and foster unity. Identity in Indigenous communities is a major focus and touchy subject because for so long, many of our collectives have been consistently reclassified and stripped of our right to self-identify which in itself is a human right. For clarity, we are not saying that every person within Black communities in America are indigenous to the Americas. We are acknowledging those who are. With that being said, please be respectful.
