The Tomb is Empty: Matthew 28

Matthew 28 tells the glorious account of the resurrection of Jesus. The women come to the tomb and find it empty, the angel declares that Jesus has risen, and Jesus appears to His followers. The chapter closes with the Great Commission, where Jesus sends His disciples out to make disciples of all nations.

This chapter reminds us that the story does not end at the cross. Jesus is alive, and because He lives, we have hope.

Rest in the Tomb: Matthew 27

Matthew 27 takes us through the trial, suffering, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus. In this chapter, we see Jesus delivered to Pilate, mocked by the soldiers, led to Golgotha, and crucified. The chapter also records the darkness over the land, the death of Christ, and His body being placed in the tomb.

This chapter helps us reflect on the great sacrifice Jesus made and the weight of the cross during Holy Week.

Now we come into the deeper sorrow and weight of Holy Week. Matthew 26 brings us close to the betrayal, the prayer in Gethsemane, and the beginning of Christ’s suffering.

Read this chapter slowly today. Let your heart reflect on the love and obedience of Jesus as He submitted Himself to the Father’s will.

Holy Week is a time to remember that our salvation was not casual. It was costly. And Jesus willingly gave Himself for us.

So thankful for the men of our church who come together to help widows and single women with work that needs to be done. What a blessing it is to see people serve with willing hearts and show the love of Jesus.
