Our hearts are broken. Autura loved the Church, she loved people, and she was passionate about fighting for those harmed by among others, racism, sexism, and homophobia. She never flinched when she needed to take a stand against wrong, no matter how uncomfortable it would make those doing the wrong. She stood up for the least of these, and inspired us all to take a strong stand against evil and injustice in whatever forms they present themselves.

Rest In Peace, dear one. Know we’re all better humans for having walked in your presence.

We pray for tenderness to attend those who loved Rev. Dr. Autura Eason-Williams. Autura died yesterday after being shot during a carjacking outside of her home. She was the District Superintendent of the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference's Metro District.

Autura was a fearless, bold leader in the Church and a strong LGBTQ+ ally. Where others alluded to their support, Autura clearly affirmed LGBTQ+ people and the need to remove The UMC's discriminatory policies. We at RMN are devastated by her death. We lament the senseless gun violence that ended her life. And we send our love to Autura's family and loved ones.
